The Young and the Restless News: Melissa Ordway Reveals Her Latest Challenge On Set
The Young and the Restless star Melissa Ordway (Abby Newman) recently revealed her latest challenge on set. The actress, who is best known for her role as Abby Newman, is spending a lot of time on set pretending to cuddle a baby that isn’t really there! As many fans know already, Abby recently welcomed her son Dominic with her husband, Chance Chancellor. The only problem though is that her sperm donor, Devon Hamilton, wants more time with the little tot. But for Melissa, it’s trying to play “make believe” that has proven to be quite the task for her. Here’s what she has to say!
The Young and the Restless News: Melissa Ordway Reveals Her Latest Challenge On Set
In an interview with Soap Opera Digest, the blonde beauty admitted that it was a challenge trying to make a swaddled doll look like Abby’s son, Dominic. Even though Abby has plenty of experience swaddling real life babies, as she’s a mother to two daughters herself, pretending to hold a plastic doll in her arms while trying to make it look real looked easier than it was! She said, “Because of Covid restrictions, we couldn’t have really young babie on set. So whenever we were using the dolls in scenes, we had to make it look like we were holding a real baby by being super gentle with it and making sure we were supporting its neck.”
That said, Abby admitted during rehearsal time she and her co-stars couldn’t help but get a little unprofessional with the doll! She said, “We would toss the baby doll around to each other or through it back into the bassinet like a basketball. We were horrible. What was funny about that is I grew up playing with dolls and my daughters love them, too, but when I came home after pretending for hours that this inanimate object is a real baby, the last thing I wanted to do is play with dolls.”

Hey, we don’t blame Melissa at all! It’s hard work pretending to swaddle, cuddle and love a baby that can’t cry or talk back. Ha!
