General Hospital fans are coming to Joshua Benard’s defense for a good reason. The actor, who is currently playing Adam on the hit ABC soap, has been slammed by some people because they believe that he only got the role because his father Maurice Benard is Sonny Corinthos. Well, Joshua has so far proved them wrong. Here’s what you need to know.

In an interview with Soap Opera Digest, Joshua admits that he’s worked hard to get to where he is today. He told the publication that working on General Hospital has been a lot of fun. He said, “When I first came on, they just had me do one thing and that was it, and then I was for a couple of months, six months or something like that. Now that it just keeps going, it’s almost like I get to go to acting class every day I’m there.”
The actor also added, “I’ve been getting a little more angry [as Adam], in a way that’s similar to how I would get angry in my real life, and he’s been helping me with that. My mom [Paula Benard] helps me, too, the same amount that my dad does.”
Many General Hospital fans have taken to social media to show their support for Joshua seeing how so many people think that he only got his job on the soap because of his father. Many argue that he is certainly a very talented actor who has earned his right to be on the show. Some have even commented with, “Joshua Benard is doing a wonderful job on General Hospital. The great storyline he is doing great, peer pressure or family, where the children are so stressed and uncomfortable they don’t know how to accept help until something bad happens. I can’t wait to see where this storyline is going,” along with, “Don’t worry about the nay sayers. Some people can’t help always being negative or even just jealous. You’re a great actor. Keep up the great performance you bring to the character and show.”

Another General Hospital fan added, “Joshua you are playing the part of Adam perfectly. Keep up the great work! I also did not know that Maurice Bernard is your father. He is amazing, I watch his YouTube series as well. He’s one of the best therapist I’ve ever had.”
