General Hospital News: Maurice Benard’s Retirement In The Works
According to the latest General Hospital episodes, Sonny Corinthos looked like he was having chest pains, which prompted a lot of people to wonder if he was having a heart attack. If that’s the case, a lot of people believe that Sonny’s time in Port Charles might soon come to and end.
But then again, this isn’t the first time that Maurice Benard’s possible retirement from the world of daytime television has made headlines. Back in 2022, the actor suggested that it might be time for him to take a break from work and focus on his family.
During an episode of State of Mind that year, Maurice suggested that he might be ready to leave the canvas sooner rather than later. In fact, it seems like retirement is on his mind more than anything else. “I’m really happy right now. If you know me, you know it’s in waves how happy I am on General Hospital. Up and down, up and down,” he said.
General Hospital News: What’s Next For Maurice Benard?
If that weren’t enough, Maurice also added, “Acting isn’t what it was when I was young. Sometimes it’s difficult and it hits me in places to act that I don’t like. But right now, I’m really happy on GH.”
The actor also added, “Soon enough, I’ll be done with it. Sorry. I hate to say that, but it’s the truth.”
If there is anyone that deserves a wonderful retirement, it would definitely be Maurice Benard. He’s played Sonny Corinthos for well over three decades and could definitely use a break to focus on his growing family at home.
So far Maurice has not made any new comments about the matter.

I love Maurice Bernard as Sonny. He is someone that couldn’t be recast. He deserves a break from Sonny. Whether it be brief or forever.
The story line about his bipolar disorder was just too much. He actually did his condition too real and certainly was his crowning achievement.
Now if he chooses to break his career for Sonny now, I would stand up and applaud his decision and his legacy.
