Forensic Report Says Alec Baldwin Pulled The Trigger In Fatal Rust Shooting
It appears as though the only way that you can kill a person with a gun is by pulling its trigger. Unfortunately for Knots Landing alum Alec Baldwin, this fact won’t bode well for him in the ongoing investigation into the shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of the movie Rust back in October. In fact, a forensic report by the FBI concludes that the shooting wouldn’t have happened without the pull of a trigger. Here’s what you need to know.
Forensic Report Says Alec Baldwin Pulled The Trigger In Fatal Rust Shooting
The FBI’s conclusion does not align with Baldwin’s previous statement about the tragedy in which he says that he did not pull the trigger on the gun that killed Hutchins. Back in December, Baldwin, who held the gun in his hands, told ABC News in an interview, “The trigger wasn’t pulled. I didn’t pull the trigger. I would never point a gun at anyone and pull a trigger at them. Never.”
Yet, the FBI report states that the gun “could not be made to fire without a pull of the trigger.” With the hammer fully cocked, the report states that the gun “could not be made to fire without a pull of the trigger while the working internal components were intact and functional.”
Rust Shooting: What’s Next For Alec Baldwin?
The FBI made their conclusion while testing out a similar gun that Baldwin held that day. With that said, investigators are yet to receive any of the actor’s phone records, even though it’s been seven months since he turned his phone over to the Suffolk County Police Department in New York.
With that said, attorney Lukas Nikas told the media that, “the FBI was unable to fire the gun in any prior test, even when pulling the trigger, because it was in such poor condition.”
He added, “The critical report is the one from the medical examiner, who concluded that this was a tragic accident. This is the third time the New Mexico authorities have found that Alec Baldwin had no authority or knowledge of the allegedly unsafe conditions on the set, that he was told by the person in charge of safety on the set that the gun was ‘cold,’ and believed the gun was safe.”
So far Alec Baldwin himself has not made any comments about the matter, although we will update you with all of the latest details as they come in.
