The Young And The Restless Spoilers: Billy Drops Chancellor Bombshell – Lily Could Lose Everything To Jabot
The Young and the Restless spoilers document that Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) was right. Jill Abbott (most recently played by Lauren Koslow) was hiding something that has proven to be huge.
Chancellor Industries had serious financial issues in the 1970s, and someone came to its rescue. Katherine Chancellor (Jeanne Cooper) was directly aided by her high school classmate, John Abbott (Jerry Douglas).
Talk about reaching way back to the past. Kudos to the writing staff for revisiting a period in history that happened during the early years of the show.
John Abbott Came To The Rescue And Made A Good Deal
John didn’t provide charity to the company that was originally founded by Katherine’s first husband, Gary Reynolds (this late character has only ever been referenced but never seen), in the days before Y&R was first seen (1973).
Thompson’s dialogue served as new information for all viewers except those daytime devotees who are in the age range to have been watching this enduring soap for more than five decades. Of course, plenty of historical information is available on this comprehensive soap site that viewers can access in these modern digital times as well.
As Billy told it to his brother and nephew, fittingly at Chancellor Park’s outdoor cafe, John loaned Chancellor money during the period when Phillip Chancellor II (Donnelly Rhodes) was Katherine’s second husband, and they renamed the company with its current moniker. Terms of the deal stipulated that the loan had to be repaid in twenty years; it wasn’t, and so Billy believes that Jabot owns Chancellor.
Major Implications For Lily Winters Are Ahead
If what Billy learned can be legally proven, then Lily Winters (Christel Khalil) has a major problem. While the Abbotts aren’t here enemies, it feels likely that Jack would assert his right to take control of the company that Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) recently gave her as a personal payoff.
Lily hired her renewed love, Cane Ashby (Billy Flynn), to help her run Chancellor. That actually was a form of foreshadowing because Katherine had Phillip II help her run the company and also recruited Victor to Genoa City, Wisconsin, in the years following his death to lead the show.
Of course, Victor later left Chancellor and founded Newman Enterprises. Katherine left Chancellor to him in her will when she died in 2013. He later sold it to Jill, who sold it back to him after she felt Billy was ruining it.
Billy Abbott’s Vindication Is Possible
Fans know that Billy has been on the verge of apparent success many times. But either he sabotages himself or soapy circumstances come into play.
So, all of the above hardly guarantees that all will result in Chancellor becoming part of the Abbott family business and, by extension, Jack will install Billy as its head. But that’s what Thompson’s resilient character appears to be projecting.
This is a very creative use of show history, with multiple implications for current characters. Good soap honors the past while also providing viewers with a current compelling plot point. This story meets the first criteria and has the potential to deliver on the second.
