Prince Harry’s Emotional Confession – Duke Admits He Lost His “Purpose and Identity” After Army Exit

Prince Harry Makes Emotional NATO Confession – “I Lost Part of My Purpose and Identity”

On Thursday, Oct. 1, Prince Harry made a surprise virtual appearance before the NATO Military Committee at its headquarters in Brussels.

During the candid message, he talked about founding Invictus Games and what life has been like post-military.

Prince Harry Talked About Transitioning Out of His Military Career In NATO Address

Beginning in 2005, Prince Harry’s career in the military lasted for a decade, coming to an end in 2015. By the end of his tenure, he had advanced to the rank of Captain.

Now reflecting on his years of service, Harry talked about the NATO alliance and how it is made up of “people who volunteer to serve.

People who train together, deploy together, fight together and in many cases, recover together.

And families who serve alongside them in ways that are rarely acknowledged. And ultimately, people who come home.”

Delving into his own experiences, he continued, “I know something about that transition.

When I hung up my uniform, I felt as though I had lost not simply a profession, but part of my purpose and identity.”

Thanks to his platform as a member of the Royal Family, Harry soon found another way to serve away from the battlefield.

He did this by founding Invictus Games, which he proclaimed was bigger than “a sporting event.”

“Invictus is not a sporting event. Sport is one of our tools. Our mission is much bigger,” he explained. “We rebuild purpose.

We rebuild confidence. We strengthen families and communities. We connect veterans back into society.”

“And increasingly, we connect nations so they can learn from each other about recovery, rehabilitation, mental health and life after service.”

Prince Harry On the Real Values Behind Invictus Games

As Invictus Games heads to Birmingham in 2027, over a decade after it was founded, Harry wants people to understand the events a little better.

Explaining the core of the games, he said, “They may never wear the uniform again. But they can still lead. They can still serve.

They can still strengthen their community and their country. And they can become some of the most credible role models we have — particularly for the next generation.”

“That is character built from service, values embedded in one’s blood,” he continued. “That is the Invictus Spirit.

We are building a global movement that can turn the experience of wounded, injured and sick service personnel and their families into stronger communities, better systems and more resilient nations.”
