General Hospital Spoilers: Power Struggle Erupts Between Jack and Valentin — Who’s Really in Control?
General Hospital spoilers gush Jack Brennan (Chris McKenna) and Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart) have had quite the sparring match this week at Steinmauer Prison in Switzerland.
As Jack put pressure on Valentin to divulge information he has on the cold fusion project he suspects is still operating out of Port Charles, despite Cesar Faison (Anders Hove) being long gone.
So far, it doesn’t appear that anyone suspects Faison is actually still alive. After all, as Dante Falconeri (Dominic Zamprogna) reminded, they have his brain in a jar.
Not for nothing, but that could certainly be faked, and that’s just the type of thing that Faison would do! Police Commissioner Anna Devane (Finola Hughes) seemed to be more over target with that.
While Anna seems to recognize how powerless she feels in this situation, Jack and Valentin both seemed to be sitting in a circle that was a little more inside the loop — but are either of them even in control, and if so, which one of them?
Jack is on the Attack
Jack wasn’t pulling any punches when he showed up at Steinmauer to confront Valentin. He delivered Charlotte Cassadine (Bluesy Burke) and used her as a means of brokering what he really wanted from the stealthy Cassadine reject — information on Faison.
It seems that Valentin was bent on speaking in riddles a bit but he didn’t leave Jack with nothing to work with. Just the opposite, he warned him that there is no way Faison was working alone before death, nor after.
Jack was quick to snap back when Valentin made mere mention of Carly Spencer (Laura Wright), signaling that he knows more about Jack’s daily life than the WSB Station Chief is probably comfortable with. Ah, but the fanbase believes that was the whole point.
GH Spoilers Boast Valentin Never Shows His Hand
Yes, Valentin successfully ruffled Jack’s feathers on Thursday and left him feeling knocked down a peg. After all, Valentin was in the power position, holding onto information that Jack knew he couldn’t get anywhere else.
If we had to guess, we would say Valentin delivered on the questions Jack knew to ask, but that’s where he stopped short.
It wouldn’t be like any good Cassadine to divulge information that wasn’t expressly asked for. In keeping it close to the vest, Valentin knows he can broker more rewards for himself by piecemealing information out to Jack.
Furthermore, it’s quite possible that he knows more than he is letting on about Project Cold Fusion, and he isn’t about to give Jack a crash course to jump in and join him. Could Valentin be running this whole operation? Many fans seem to think so.
No One Knows Faison Like Anna
Sure, whoever is in charge is presumed to have all the power, but power also comes in the form of who knows the most. Anna may not know who is behind this project or all of the players involved, but she does know Faison’s track record — and his style of work — better than anyone else at the table.
Valentin might be an asset that Jack can actually milk for details, but he must know Anna isn’t going to relinquish any information that she thinks Jack will use for nefarious purposes.
She would rather root out what is going on and put an end to it, and she won’t trust Jack to do that.
So in the end, who won in this power struggle? On one hand, Jack is a free man who walked out of that prison. On the other, Valentin might be safer where he’s sitting than Jack is. Stay tuned for more GH news and spoilers to see if it stays that way.
