Y&R Actor Calls Out 'Toxic' Fan Behavior

The Young and the Restless (Y&R) star Jermaine Rivers (Damian Kane) calls out the “toxic” soap fans, suggesting they need therapy to deal with their “personal trauma.”

The actor claims the new soap fan base is nothing like the “sweet ladies from the 70s and 80s” who watched the soap and could have healthy conversations about the storylines.

The Tweets That Rocked The Y&R Fanbase

The actor posted on X,” I’m convinced that most (Not all) of today’s so-called soap fans are far removed from the sweet old ladies who watched it back in the 70’s 80’s and 90’s.

The internet has created some Straight Savages who are mean-spirited and tune in just to complain about the shows they watch. What happened to watching Soaps for the love of it? Why are Y’all so mad, hateful, and triggered for🧐?”

The actor followed up with another tweet, “ It comes down to Emotional Intelligence… if someone gets triggered by watching a Soap, there’s a deeper problem that’s not being addressed in their personal life.

It’s clearly evidence of some unhealed trauma that the viewer hasn’t worked through. Let’s not place blame on a fictional TV character or storyline that’s being played out for entertainment purposes as an excuse for toxic behavior. We’re not dodging accountability over here!”

As you can imagine, the soap fanbase reacted on X. Some agreed with the actor, while others felt offended by his harsh words.

The Fans React To His Harsh Words

Many fans reacted to his harsh words by retweeting and expressing their thoughts. Chrissi (X User: @SoapsSpoilers) retweeted, “ I agree a few are toxic, but not everyone. I disagree on saying the incredibly loyal group of fans who have watched and loved your show for 50 odd years need therapy. These are the very people who pay for your show to be on the air. Where is the PR team on this? “

Most of the replies agreed with Chrissi. The Young and the Restless viewers are no strangers to expressing their thoughts about the show, storylines, and the actors.

It’s all part of social media. However, for an actor to put the fans on blast, and to suggest if you express a harsh opinion of the show or actors, you need therapy, is crossing a line, and it may be time for CBS to step in and let the PR team handle this mess.
This Is Not A New Thing

Michael Fairman interviewed Jeanne Cooper in 2012, where she detailed how upset the viewers were about the “Who Killed Phillip” storyline.

“When there was the ‘Who Killed Phillip?’ storyline and our characters were in court, and being thrown about, a faction of fans lined up at CBS with posters marching, and this group flew in from the East Coast. And they were pro-Brenda (Jill).

Then, I in turn said to her, ‘Well, all these people must have gotten pregnant by someone else’s husband.’ They had to get us out of the studio because we had death threats! They would say that I or she deserved to die.’ Oh, the studio was very quiet about that, and they had police stand there.

It was wild!,” Jeanne Cooper explained.Y&R fans, do you agree with Jermaine Rivers’ comments about the soap fanbase? Keep watching The Young and the Restless, airing weekdays on CBS and streaming on Paramount+. Please share your thoughts with us in the comments section below.
