Has he thrown in the towel? That’s what a lot of General Hospital fans and critics can’t help but wonder when it comes to Maurice Benard.
The actor, who is best known for his role as Sonny Corinthos on the hit ABC soap, spends more of this time promoting his State of Mind YouTube show than he does the show he’s been on for the last four decades.
This has prompted a lot of people to wonder if Maurice is trying to get out of his contract as all he seems to talk about is mental health awareness on his social media channels.
In fact, many General Hospital viewers have noticed that when his character was talking to Ava during the most recent episode of the soap, the actor was just reading from his cue cards and not even looking at his co-star.
And of course, this has prompted a lot of people to wonder: what gives? Has Maurice thrown in the towel already?
After all, Maurice did mention in the past that he was seriously considering retiring in the next few years so he can focus on other things in his life like his family and his YouTube series, State of Mind.
Not only that, but he also seemed to be confusing fans over his retirement plans, too. No one knows if he wants to stay or if he wants to go. That’s because he keeps sending his fans different messages about the matter online.
However, Maurice has also hinted that he wants to spend more time with his family at home. He’s a proud father and grandfather and makes it known just how much he loves his family on social media.
So far Maurice himself has not made any comments to the criticism he’s received, although at this point it’s doubtful that anything will be said.

It would be a big blow to GH losing Sonny. HE IS KING OF THE SHOW. Personally I don’t think I would watch it if that happened. I’ve been in love with Maurice’s acting since he played Nico in All My Children. I would bet I’m not the only one that feels that way
