Last year, we learned that the Sussexes are working on a Princess Diana documentary for Netflix. Described as a project to explore her legacy and lingering influence, it is set to arrive in time for the 30th anniversary of the Princess’ death.
Meghan Markle is reportedly hemming the show – a reality which is said to have vexed Prince William to no end.
However, now that Harry and Meghan and their kids are back on UK soil, there’s been speculations that capturing footage for the Princess Diana documentary is at the heart of their visit.
Prior to the Sussexes landing in the UK, it was reported that a visit to Althorp House with the kids was among the itinerary. Following this, speculations began mounting that Harry and Meghan would likely be filming around the property, and even capturing Diana’s gravesite.
“William has heard the rumors about them filming some sort of docuseries about Diana. So naturally he’s suspicious that getting footage for that is the real motivator for Meghan to come on this trip,” a source told Heat World.
Whether William suspects this or not is yet to be officially confirmed, what we do know is that Charles Spencer won’t be letting the duo film on the property.
He has reportedly warned the Sussexes not to take Netflix cameras to film at Princess Diana’s gravesite. This in no way showcases a fracturing relationship between the Earl and his nephew Prince Harry.
If you can recall, he has continued to enjoy a close relationship with the Duke of Sussex, despite the latter’s lingering rift with his family.
This also wouldn’t be the first time that Diana’s older brother has blocked cameras from filming at the Althorp Estate. He famously rejected Netflix’s ‘The Crown’s’ request to film at the property.
Charles Spencer has always been fiercely protective of his sister’s legacy, and as its manager, has enforced strict laws over media access on the property. Diana is buried on a secluded island at the Althorp estate in Northamptonshire.
This does not mean that Charles has never opened the doors of Althorp House for film crews. However, due to his fondness for his sister’s legacy, he has only allowed legitimate documentaries access to the family estate.
Despite reports suggesting Charles has forbidden the Sussexes from filming at the property, the 14,000-acre Althorp estate will close its doors for two days in mid-July. The timing suspiciously aligns with the Sussexes’ UK visit, further fueling the rumors.
