Critics Speak Out About Alec Baldwin’s Manslaughter Charge

Critics sure have a lot to say about Hollywood actor Alec Baldwin and the news that says he’s been charged with involuntary manslaughter for the shooting death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. She died back in October of 2021 on the set of Rust. Baldwin maintains that he was given a cold gun and that he never pulled the trigger on her. Keep reading below for everything you need to know.

Critics Speak Out About Alec Baldwin’s Manslaughter Charge

One of the counts is for involuntary manslaughter, in which prosecutors will have to prove there is underlying negligence. The other charge is involuntary manslaughter in the commission of a lawful act. Baldwin could face up to five years in prison. Santa Fe District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies said in a statement: “After a thorough review of the evidence and the laws of the state of New Mexico, I have determined that there is sufficient evidence to file criminal charges against Alec Baldwin and other members of the ‘Rust’ film crew. On my watch, no one is above the law, and everyone deserves justice.”

Of course, it didn’t take long at all for the internet to weigh in on the matter. Many comments have included, “Honestly Alec is a major douchebag but this largely isn’t his fault. Halls and Gutierrez-Reed bear the majority of the blame. It’s not like he was doing a Jim Caviezel and waving the gun around recklessly (unless there’s something we don’t know),” along with, “I thought by now we’d understand more about what happened. Why would a company send live rounds in a box of blanks? If true, that company should be fined/shut down. If I were Hannah or Alec, I would be working on a plea right now.”

What’s Next For Alec Baldwin?

Another person said, “Alec was responsible for hiring the firearm expert who turned out to be unqualified for the job and union workers walked out of the job because they said the set wasn’t safe.. First rule for anyone handling a gun is to check it’s not loaded, 2nd rule is to never point it towards anyone directly.”

And then there was this comment, “He is responsible as a producer. Someone died and it matters very little that he didn’t mean to. You just don’t point guns at people on set. Ever.”

So far Baldwin himself has not made any comments about the ordeal.
