Days of Our Lives Moves To Peacock: Former DOOL Director Explains What’s Ahead

Days of Our Lives fans have nothing to fear – at least not in the immediate future. While a lot of people are still scratching their heads over NBC’s decision to drop Days of Our Lives from their daytime television lineup and move it over to its online streaming service Peacock insead, some people believe that this move is actually a positive one for DOOL and the soap world in general. Here’s what you need to know.

Days of Our Lives Moves To Peacock: Former DOOL Director Explains What’s Ahead

Days of Our Lives director Scott McKinsey took to his Facebook account to explain that this move to Peacock doesn’t mean that the soap is knocking on death’s door. In fact, it’s quite the opposite. He said, “The show has not been canceled, and/or ‘picked up’ by Peacock. This is a big difference from the sad demise of ABC’s [One Life to Live] and [All My Children]. All of your favorite characters will remain on the show for the foreseeable future. In fact, the prospect of ‘Days’ remaining in production for the long term just increased as a result of this move. Without Peacock, Days might have been numbered on the Network.”

What’s more, McKinsey also added that there are a lot of benefits to online streaming. He explained, “I understand peoples’ sour reaction to being asked for money to remain viewers, but let’s look at the positives,” McKinsey wrote. “The monthly subscription includes access to every show DOOL has ever aired, (as I understand it). It allows you to watch a new episode anywhere you have internet access. So you don’t have to view it on your DVR at home, (or lose the episode because your DVR is full, or because the network preempted it for a car chase!)”

Days of Our Lives Moves To Peacock: What’s Next For The Soap?

Needless to say, Days of Our Lives fans have been left outraged by the move, seeing how the soap has been on the NBC network for well over six decades. However, NBC Television chairman Mark Lazarus commented on the situation with a statement that said, “This programming shift benefits both Peacock and NBC and is reflective of our broader strategy to utilize our portfolio to maximize reach and strengthen engagement with viewers. With a large percentage of the Days of Our Lives audience already watching digitally, this move enables us to build the show’s loyal fanbase on streaming while simultaneously bolstering the network daytime offering with an urgent, live programming opportunity for partners and consumers.”

Watch this space as we have a feeling there is so much more to come and that hopefully, Days of Our Lives won’t go anywhere, anytime soon.

Of course, fans will have to tune in to find out what will happen next! In the meantime, let us know what you think by leaving us a line with your thoughts in our comments section below. Days of Our Lives airs weekdays on the NBC network. Check your local listings for times.
