Her portrayer, Kate Mansi, has also got her plate full, not only acting on the ABC soap, but also recently embarking on her directorial debut.
Kate Mansi Puts On Her Director’s Hat
Mansi recently had her directorial debut on General Hospital, directing the Monday, March 16 episode. The show highlighted a talk between Molly Lansing-Davis (Kristen Vaganos) and Cody Bell (Josh Kelly), as Molly went into detail about her endometriosis condition. This subject is near and dear to Mansi’s heart, as the actress also suffers from the illness.
General Hospital recently uploaded a video on Instagram where Mansi goes into detail about her directorial debut on the daytime drama. The post highlights Mansi talking about how her directorial came to be, as well as her experience, and backstage clips of her in action.
Mansi Has Wanted To Do This For A While
Mansi states in the IG post that she was always really interested in directing as the directors on GH are so incredible.
She noted that Frank Valentini, the show’s executive producer, was kind enough to allow her to shadow the GH directors’ team for about a year. This is how she learned how they do what they do, the formula, and the technique for the job.
Mansi notes that one of the scenes that she was nervous to direct was between legends Genie Francis (Laura Collins) and Jane Elliott (Tracy Quartermaine). As fans who watched Monday’s episode will note, Tracy stormed into Laura’s office with a massive complaint, and the scenes were pretty intense.
Martin Grey (Michael E. Knight) and Ezra Boyle (temporary recast – Patrick Scott Lewis) were also in the room, making for a cramped filming. Still, Kate does say she felt like she conquered the scene well … and is glad it is over!
Actor & Director Factor
Mansi states in the IG video that her work as an actor has helped her with her directorial journey. Josh Kelly even appeared in the video stating that he likes being directed by actors as he feels seen, respected, and that he has common ground with the director.
Mansi concludes that the whole experience was so gratifying, but the real question is, will she continue to direct moving forward?
