Michelle Obama Admits Her Popularity Was A ‘Threat’
According to Fox News, Michelle says that she had to be very careful about her fashion choices and what she wore in public and how she even wore her hair just because she was criticized so much by the media.
Because she was very careful about not wanting to see her name in any negative headlines during her husband, President Barack Obama’s first term in office, Michelle made an effort to “dimish” her look, so to speak.
She put it this way, “I started wearing my hair in braids in college, right? But as I went up the professional ranks, being a lawyer, they wanted, you know, I didn’t want my hair to be a part of the conversation.”
“So I made the decision, you know, look, America is struggling enough to accept the first Black president and first lady. I’m not going to make my hair the issue.”
Michelle Obama also added, “The more popular I became, the more of a threat I became. It was interesting.
That’s when the articles started coming out. This is when I understood like, this is politics, oh, they’re coming after me because I’m useful. And they’re trying to beat my husband, so they’re trying to slow me down, right?”
All About Michelle Obama’s Fashion Choices
Then again, this really shoudln’t surprise anyone who has been paying attention to Michelle and her style over the years.
That’s because while she was the First Lady, it seemed like a week didn’t go by that someone didn’t have something to say about her fashion choices, whether it was her wearing spaghetti straps while meeting Queen Elizabeth or just being spotted during a shopping run at Target.
So far Michelle Obama herself has not made any additional comments about the matter.
