Will Victor Newman’s Reset Last Forever?
A one-word answer to the subject header question would be a hard no. However, there have been many instances where conflict or crisis, specifically involving Nikki, led Victor to walk on a lighter path for an extended period.
Reclaiming Newman Enterprises was inevitable. There was no way that the king of Genoa City, Wisconsin, was ever going to be without control of the company he founded more than fifty years ago.
It’s reasonable to tag the storyline where Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) took control of Victor’s company as ridiculous.
But an artificial intelligence tale was woven into the script, with the latest doom-and-gloom for humanity plot line, which played off a trendy topic, took effect.
However, concurrent with that story was Nikki’s sudden malady and Victor’s need to recognize what’s most important in life.
Newman Family Knows What’s Best
There is an old situation comedy that was called Father Knows Best. Y&R used the exterior and interior setting of that show when building the then-Victoria Newman Abbott’s (Amelia Heinle) and Billy Abbott’s (then played by the late, great Billy Miller) home.
That was the location where Victor had his daughter and Billy-boy arrested on their initial wedding day.
That fabled outrage has been recanted many times, with replays unable to be shown because other actors, most recently Jason Thompson (Billy Abbott), are part of the cast.
The show title is referenced because the entire Newman family knows Victor best. In contrast, the Moustache, another of his many nicknames, has long believed that only he knows what’s best for his family and everyone else.
Nikki Newman Is Destined To See Again
Full credit to Thomas Scott, above all others, for her work in this storyline. This longest-tenured member of the cast (1979), her work has long been stellar.
Finding new ways for Nikki to confront controversy isn’t easy. But the creativity of the writing staff produced the current crisis, and it’s a good one.
What began as unexplained headaches was revealed as a mass that was pressing on her optic nerve.
Emergency surgery relieved the internal pressure but left her blind, with a temporary loss of sight being a more accurate description.
Yet, the fans have been allowed to see Victor’s anguish about his only true love’s condition. It is in those tender moments, the ones that have often reinforced Braeden’s acting range, that the real Christian Miller can be seen.
Soon the man he became, Victor Newman, will rejoice when Nikki sees again. That climax will tie one of this couple’s more recent love stories with a sweet bow.
