Prince Harry And Meghan Markle’s Uncertain Second Netflix Deal — What We Know So Far
Earlier this month, we learned that Netflix has opted to cancel their partnership with Meghan Markle’s lifestyle brand, ‘As Ever.’
While this must have been a big blow to the fledgling brand, Meghan’s spokesperson maintained that the Duchess saw it as a good thing. The claim was that Netflix was too “cautious” with the brand and therefore was holding it back.
Through a Variety report, we’re learning that their downsized deal with Netflix may even now be standing on shaky ground.
But that’s just the start of it.
What Will Happen To Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Archewell Productions If Netflix Completely Pulls Out
The question on everyone’s minds right now is how Harry and Meghan plan to survive the financial blow if they completely lose Netflix’s backing?
I mean, Harry could always do his speeches – or write another ‘Spare’ if worse comes to worse – and Meghan could always do her pay-to-play style retreats. But it won’t be too hard to guess that the bulk of the Sussex couple’s income will go down the drain, should Netflix exit the chat.
Currently, it’s already speculated that As Ever may not long outlast the exit of Netflix. But, if sources are to be believed, it wasn’t even doing well with Netflix.
$10 million worth of unsold As Ever stock is reportedly sitting cold in a warehouse, even though earlier reports claimed that the brand’s supplies would sell out within minutes.
Due to this, Netflix reportedly started giving away free products to staff, though Meghan’s spokesperson has long addressed these claims, saying the intention behind the report was misconstrued. Instead of the streaming giant desperately giving away products it couldn’t sell, the spokesperson mollified it by saying that they were simply giving away samples, which were never meant to be sold.
Back to Archewell Productions, however, we see a similar story unfolding. Even though the couple try to paint the situation in a much better and perhaps even brighter light, the fact remains that projects have lingered in the pipeline for way too long. As for the ones that have seen the light of day, they have failed to make any sort of profound impact.
In this way, the only running program the Sussexes’ currently have with Netflix, ‘With Love, Meghan,’ is said to have been put in the back burner as well.
Outside of the streamer, Harry and Meghan’s Archewell Productions also produced a Girl Scout documentary that has just recently found a home with a moderate distribution company.
