The Young and the Restless spoilers document that Patty Williams (Stacy Haiduk) is returning shortly. It fits that Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) would recruit Jack Abbott’s (Peter Bergman) two-time wife.
Longtime fans know that Patty is more than just an ex. She’s a notorious character who is Paul Williams (Doug Davidson) sister and a killer and has targeted many in Genoa City, Wisconsin, through the years.
Patty’s mental health history has long been an issue. More recently, she was connected to Ian Ward (Ray Wise). The audience can easily make a leap of faith by wondering if Patty’s return will be coupled with Ian’s or eventually lead to it because fans know he isn’t dead.
Jack Abbott Is Gone Again
Victor told Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) that he would turn Chancellor over to him immediately, or neither he nor anyone in his family would ever see Jack alive again. That begged the question as to where he was.
Fans learn that Jack is trapped at sea, which reminds devoted viewers of the time when Victor replaced his nemesis with a doppelganger. Kelly Andrews (Cady McClain) was murdered in the bed where Jack was placed.
Victor swapped Jack for a look-alike that she picked from a Peruvian prison. Marco Annicelli (Bergman in a dual role) played Jack to the hilt, making Phyllis Summers (then played by Gina Tognoni) believe it was her then-husband.
Victor Newman Goes Back To The Poisoned Well
So, replaying the kidnapping angle is an interesting choice that the writing staff and, through them, Victor made. It’s a debatable choice.
Fans of Y&R who also follow other soaps might be thinking that this storyline is borrowing from General Hospital, where Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Bernard) has been running an organized crime ring since his debut in 1993. But this is Genoa City, Wisconsin, not Port Charles.
However, devoted GC viewers know that Victor has long been amoral. He’s broken many laws and stepped way beyond the bounds of the law on multiple occasions.
So, dipping his moustache back in the poisoned well isn’t new. Yet, the lengths to which Victor is going in this instance are arguably more intense. That’s because he never thought Cane Ashby (Billy Flynn) and Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) would be able to steal Newman Enterprises. But they did.
Patty Williams Is One Wild Character
Haiduk has been so outstanding in this role. She’s been nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award three times in her career, with one of those nominations being in 2017 on Y&R. She was also nominated in 2022 and 2023 for her portrayal of Kristen DiMera and Susan Banks.
This great actor delivers everything on screen, which is what makes moments like her past fixation with a dead cat so enthralling. Pairing Haiduk with Wise was genius.
Hopefully, Haiduk’s return isn’t short-lived because it would be a thrill to see Patty and Ian collaborate again. Of course, viewers will soon learn why she’s returned and if Victor had anything to do with it.
