Is Prince William Making the Right Moves To Become A Global Statesman?

Prince William has already made it clear that he’s all for more action and less talk, and he proved this when he took the stage in Monaco to present his plea for a united approach to protecting the world’s oceans.

Apart from being greeted by loud claps, the Prince’s message was one that moved many hearts and inspired a sense of urgency in listeners.

But is that enough to earn him a seat at the table, especially since his position is mostly a ceremonial one earned through birthright rather than election?

Prince William Stunned the Audience With His Speech On Marine Protection

On Sunday, June 8, Prince William made a solo appearance at Monaco’s Blue Economy and Finance Forum. Last year, he met and chatted with US President Donald Trump after they both attended an event for the re-opening of Notre Dame Cathedral, and this year, he delivered a speech in front of world leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron, Costa Rican President Rodrigo Chaves Robles, and Prince Albert of Monaco, whose Gimaldi Forum venue was hosting the event.

Per a source speaking to The Sunday Times, Prince William is “often the only person in the room who is there by virtue of their birth rather than having earned the right to be there,” and you can guess that that must naturally be a daunting position to be in.

However, William, seemingly undaunted by the reality of his position, took the stage to try to unite world leaders on the need to protect the oceans.

Prince William Speaks On the Importance of “Our Deep Connection To the Ocean”

Prince William was direct in his speech regarding why world leaders need to be on the same page when it comes to protecting the marine environment.

He urged: “We come together today united by our deep connection to the ocean and our concern for its safety. For many of us, it is a place where some of our happiest memories are made… where we have explored the wonders of the natural world… and we have all relied on its great abundance for our food and livelihoods.”

“And yet, all too often, it can feel distant and disconnected from our everyday lives, allowing us to forget just how vital it is,” he added. “The truth is that healthy oceans are essential to all life on earth.
The event, which is an important step in the leadup to this year’s UN Ocean Conference, is proof that William’s diplomatic profile is rising on a global level.
