King Charles Can’t Take Away Prince Harry And Meghan’s Titles, Even If He Wanted?
Since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle exited the Royal Family in 2020, they’ve done one thing or the other that’s prompted Royal fans to call for the stripping of their titles.
This time, it’s that Meghan Markle has continued to use her HRH honorific despite being banned from doing so as part of her pact with the Royal Family prior to stepping down.
But really, is it that King Charles won’t strip them of their titles or that he can’t?
How Much Say Does King Charles Have Over Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Titles
These days, several sources have come forward to reveal that Prince William plans to strip the Sussexes of their titles when he becomes the ruling monarch.
Perhaps in defiance of this, Meghan has decided to reveal that she’s been using her HRH title for personal and commercial reasons. This, of course, caused a great uproar and ruffled more than just a few royal feathers.
Even though the ruling monarch, the now-late Queen Elizabeth the II, was the one who granted Harry and Meghan the titles on their wedding day in the first place, only legislative action through an act of Parliament can take it away.

The thing is, as the Monarchy keeps rearranging to catch up with the modern times, these laws keep getting sanded down too. For example, there’s been talks about introducing legislation that would grant the monarch or a parliamentary committee the power to remove royal titles.
Even though it is yet to be enacted into law, the “Removal of Titles Bill” will be able to give the monarch just the power they need to do that.
But, while the monarch waits to get this awesome upgrade, The Honourable Society of the Middle Temple, a professional association for barristers in England and Wales, believes that the Sovereign should be able to easily strip a troublesome royal of the HRH honorifics should he choose.

“At present, the Sussexes (like Prince Andrew, Duke of York) have agreed not to use the appellation while they have abandoned royal duties, but it is clear that it could be withdrawn by the King, a decision that would not be amenable to judicial review,” Master Graham Zellick, a professor of public law and tribunal judge, wrote.
“In any case, removal of the honorific on the basis of giving up the role of a working member of the royal family and living abroad could hardly be faulted.”
