Maurice Benard has been playing Sonny Corinthos in this fictional town of Port Charles for almost three decades. A lot of fans would even say that the show wouldn’t be the same without Sonny and that he is often an integral part of each storyline. However, Maurice has hinted in the past that he would like to slow down. He knows that he’s not going to be in the soap opera world forever and that eventually he would like to retire so he can spend more time with his wife Paula Benard, their children, and their grandchildren.
However, there seems to be some speculation that Maurice would like to start a new career. Because his YouTube Series State of Mind has been so successful, there’s a very good chance that Maurice might want to take things to the next level and become a talk show host. Because of his popularity, there’s no doubt that he would be very successful. Maurice is very passionate about mental health issues and making sure that everyone is aware of their own ‘state of mind.’
Of course, Maurice himself hasn’t made any comments about his next steps. But when he does, everyone is going to hear about it for sure. Certainly, Maurice (aka Sonny) is a Star on GH. And, his State Of Mind podcast is popular only among his Fans, But, from the SOM episodes I have watched, that’s where it ends. Barnard would fail miserably if he ever became a Talk Show Host ~ He is far too egocentric, has absolutely no professional medical experience, and would never let his Guests get a word in edgewise!!! Forget it Maurice, spend time with your Wife and Grandchildren, instead.

Maurice said years ago that when the time comes for him to retire, he wants to be sent to prison for a long sentence. Ever once in awhile he could have visitors, he could have interactions with the other prisoners. Diane..Carly. his kids.. All things that could be pre-recorded.
Of course that was back when he has Jason to leave the keys to the kingdom. So who knows now? I think its time the idiots that fired SB rehires SB. Not a recast. The real thing. Because honestly, if both Sonny- MB and Jason- SB are gone, I have no interest in GH. Which is shocking to think about being done with GH. I watched the first episode 04-01-1963- 30min- black and white… And I’ve watched ever since…

IF and WHEN MB does retire, I certainly hope writers bring the Sonny of old back to canvas. MB has spent years developing the character of Sonny Corinthos and I would dislike to see the character destroyed as he is now. Sonny is much better as the strong character he once was, and not the questionable one that is now being presented. Sonny Wno longer has a mobster presence, just that of a coffee importer. Writers need to make up their minds as to what persona Sonny will have going forward, as he is in limbo and not very good at being a coffee importer nor a mobster the two cannot in this case be intertwined due to previous character appointments. Writers need to allow Sonny to return to himself with a hint of Mike or just allow him to turn the mob business over to someone else and he and whoever he may have an interest in at that time retire to his island in Puerto Rico.
I think it would be great if he had his own talk show after leaving GH but just don’t have his character killed off when he leaves GH.
No we need Sonny. He is the glue that holds the whole place together.. it would never be the same without him
