General Hospital star Roger Howarth is leaving the show. The actor recently opened up about how he found out that he wouldn’t be staying on in Port Charles and how he also feels about his exit from the soap. Keep reading below for everything you need to know.

Speaking to Soap Opera Digest in a new interview, Roger says that he knew his contract would not be renewed on the show when he got a phone call from General Hospital Executive Producer Frank Valentini telling him that his character Austin would be killed off.
Roger recalled, “It took me a minute to kind of adjust, to kind of hear the news; it took a second for me to let that settle in. And then, immediately, I realized how lucky I was to have been able to do something I really love doing for more than a decade with people who I really enjoyed working with. I’m a lucky guy.
I had a great run and this was a decision made by people who make these kinds of decisions for a living.”
And while General Hospital fans have made it no secret that they are disappointed that Roger will no longer be on the show, the actor is taking everything with stride. That’s because he knows this is the nature of the business, and especially for soap opera stars like him.

Roger also says that he doesn’t feel like he’s been slighted at all with this decision, even though he would still like to stay on the soap. He said, “I think that the writers and the producers and the directors work really hard to entertain a really loyal and dedicated audience and I hope that they succeed in thrilling the audience for another 60 years.
I will say this: I’m really proud of myself — like, totally truthfully, honest to God, I always tried my hardest. So for me, ultimately, there’s no loss. I know I did everything I could.”

A great loss of one of the best soap actors of the last 2 decades. He will be sorely missed! Would rather see some of newer characters disappear. Tired of all the trauma and tragedy for Sasha and Willow.

I am done with GH. I have watched from the beginning. There are so many things I FF through and Roger leaving is the last straw. Everything is about DEI and I am just done! Bug bye!
NOOO!!!!!! I have to Fast forward through dumb irritating scenes with Nina, Sasha, etc. just to get a glimpse of RH. Even tho who made a non character and wrote him into corner you’re losing the biggest talent. BRING HIM BACK!!! Make him the new evil this time. Kill Cyrus and turn a resurrrcted Austin into an embittered power broker. He wouldn’t be able to practice medicine anymore so bring him back as the QuRtermsine he was meant to be and let become the Todd Mannning of old only this time battling Tracy and Ned etc. without him Maurice Bernard has to carry the whole show. Drew is joke. Michael a baby. Finn is fascinating but too subtle. Curtis is too nice. TJ too young. Cyrus’s character is ridiculous. Robert is fabulous but old. Valentine is wimpy and shouldn’t be allowed near Charlotte. BAD parent. Cody’s a good character but may be just another pretty face as an actor. The new Nicholas is not right for the part and has no chemistry with women. Brick is compelling but he’s not spellbinding like ROGER HORWATH.

I’M sure you know your business but Roger Horwath is an asset like no other. He could carry the show on his just like Maurice Bernard. Somebody has to save his life, keep him alive. Bring him back, like Nicholas. Make his first order of business killing Cyrus in cold blood. Make him take his place as the Quartermaine heir joining a disillusioned Valentine (having lost parental rights to Dante) fighting Michael, Tracy, and Ned trying to crush Sonny.

I think their wrong for taking Roger off the show they could have found away to write him as a someone that helped bring Cyrus down.
Well we all know this isn’t the first time they killed Roger’s characters off. Hope he will be back in a different character.
It’s so sad that his character was killed off. He is such a good actor. I’m hoping they bring him back as another character again.
Maybe Franco is coming back
