This time around the First Lady of the United States is getting criticized for suggesting that she had a “beautiful childhood” while she was growing up in her native Slovenia with her family.
And while no one doubts that she had a very supportive and stable upbringing with her parents, others are pointing out that she also grew up during communism rule in Slovenia.
“I grew up, under the communism, and actually, I didn’t miss anything,” Melania told Fox News Business. “I feel I had a very beautiful childhood, and, my parents provide a beautiful child for my family.”
And while Melania’s definition of freedom might not be the same one as many Americans have and hold close to their hearts, she did say that her life in Slovenia was a good one and that she feels as though she wasn’t missing out on much.
“But, yes, there are some certain things that, you know, you need to be aware of,” she said. “And you watched over what you do.”
Did Melania Trump Go Too Far?
For a lot of Donald Trump’s critics though, they think that Melania is missing the mark. After all, she did leave Slovenia in search of a better future and ended up in America before marrying one of the wealthiest businessmen in the world.
Not only that, but many people have also pointed out that Melania could have done what she does best and simply not say anything at all, and especially if she’s going to put the words “communism” and “good” in the same sentence, right?
So far the White House has not made any comments about the matter, although at this point it’s doubtful that anything will be said. Watch this space as we have a feeling there is so much more to come.
