The Bold And The Beautiful Spoilers: Don Diamont Dishes On Being Fired Twice
The Bold And The Beautiful spoiler reveal that Don Diamont, who plays Bill Spencer, recently spoke with Rebecca Budig (Taylor, B&B) and Greg Rikaart (Leo, Days of Our Lives) on the Soapy podcast.
Some were shocked when Diamont revealed that he was fired twice which led to his role as Bill Spencer on The Bold And The Beautiful. Here is what Don had to say.
Four Decades In Television
Diamont has spent four decades in television, but the road to Bill Spencer was not an uneventful one. Before landing this role on B&B, Don was fired from Days Of Our Lives and The Young And The Restless.
Diamont reveals that these were some of the most difficult moments of his career to date. However, he finally landed the role of Bill and it’s been interesting.
On a positive note, one of these firings led to his role as Bill Spencer. Don remembers his first day on Days Of Our Lives, he was very nervous.
His character, Carlo Forenza, was introduced during a party scene and that was a bit unnerving for the young actor. Diamont revealed, “My first day on set, my character was being introduced at a party scene. So, all the stars of the show were on the set and I was very nervous.”
A Brutal Wake Up Call On His First Day
Diamont recalls that his performance caught the attention of executive producer Al Rabin. Diamont remembers that production was stopped and he was called out in front of the entire cast and crew.
Don recalls that moment in time, “I walk in and I say whatever my lines are and they stop tape.
Al comes out of the booth onto the set, calls me off the set in front of all the other actors, and said, ‘I can take an actor who’s nervous, but I can’t take an actor without energy. Now, get it together!’”
Don says they didn’t get off to a good start and he was fired a few months later. However, that may have been a good thing while looking back at his career.
Diamont recalls that “Bill had seen me on days unbeknownst to me, and he called my agent and asked me to come in, test and then the rest is history.”
Bill Bell Had Plans For Don Diamont
The next thing Don knew, Bill Bell came calling his name. Diamont went on to become a very loved member of the Y&R cast as Brad Carlton on The Young And The Restless.
Unfortunately, on the day before Thanksgiving, after 24 years on the show, Don ended up being fired once again. However, a lot of fans remember the romance between Brad and Traci Abbott (Beth Maitland).
Brad Bell Created A Role Just For Don Diamont
Brad was on the phone when Don stopped by his office after getting fired and told Michael Menace that they were going to get Don to quit Y&R and come to B&B even before he knew Don had been let go. When Brad confirmed that the character was being killed off, he created Bill Spencer Jr for Don.
This firing came out to be a huge blessing because Heather Tom, who plays Katie Logan, already had her heart set on being paired with Don’s new character.
“The story goes, which Heather always tells, when she heard I was coming to B&B… Heather hears I’m coming, and she is somewhere where she couldn’t talk, so she had to reach under the table and type, ‘I want Don Diamont,’ to Brad.”
Don credits both Heather and Beth as meaning a lot in his life. Don certainly had two great loves in his career and these two were it. It is truly hard for some fans to choose between Brad and Dollar Bill as their favorite.
