General Hospital spoilers say that it looks like there’s more than just one actor that needs a break from the soap.
Maurice Benard Desperate For A Break From The Soap
That’s because there’s heavy speculation suggesting that Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos) might be just as desperate for a long vacation from this fictional city of Port Charles, just like his co-worker and good friend, Steve Burton (Jason Morgan).
It was just announced by Steve himself that he was planning on taking several long months off from the soap and that he was looking to get back to work sometime later this year.
However, Steve made it clear that his decision to take a break has nothing to do with his contract, nor does it have to do with his personal life or his health for that matter. He just wants to focus on his marriage and his family and come back when the time is right.
And for someone like Maurice, he completely understands and apparently, wants to do the same on his end, too.
After all, Maurice has been toying with the idea of an early retirement. As much as he loves General Hospital and playing his iconic character, Sonny Corinthos, even he knows that sooner or later it’s going to be time to hang up his hat and call it a day.
What’s Next For Maurice Benard?
That’s why a break would be a good thing right now, just so Maurice can dip his toes in a pool like early retirement just to see how it feels like. But whether or not that’s actually going to happen, remains to be seen, but that doesn’t mean he’s not thinking about it.
So far Maurice Benard himself has not made any comments about the matter, although at this point it’s doubtful that anything will be said.
That’s because Maurice knows that he needs to stay on the show if he wants to continue cashing in his General Hospital paychecks. Because unlike Steve Burton, there might not be a storyline for his character waiting for him when he decides to come back.
