General Hospital Spoilers: The Unexpected Exits, Recasts & Sad Goodbyes of 2025
General Hospital (GH) spoilers reveal that 2025 was a tumultuous year for the ABC soap in terms of departures, recasts and the deaths of several beloved actors. As we begin a new year, let’s take a moment to look back at changes that took place on the ABC soap.
Rory Gibson Takes Over for Chad Duell
Recasts are usually tricky, but fans have embraced Rory Gibson as the latest Michael Corinthos. Chad Duell left General Hospital in January 2025 following an explosion. The character went to Germany for rehab and when the bandages came off in May, Gibson was in the role.
The majority of GH fans are loving this recast, with Gibson familiar to many from his previous work in daytime.
The Loss of Leslie Charleson and Monica Quartermaine
On a much sadder note, Leslie Charleson passed away on January 12th, 2025. This September the show aired a tribute episode to the legendary actress, addressing the death of her character, Monica Quartermaine. Charleson starred on GH for nearly 50 years.
Monica Quartermaine passed away in her sleep and soon her estranged sister, Ronnie Bard (Erica Slezak) suddenly appeared and stayed until October 2025. Tons of fans would love to see Slezak return and mix it up with spicy Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot).
Denise Alexander starred on GH as Lesley Webber and had an epic frenemy-ship with Monica. She passed away last March and the show has not yet acknowledged her death. Alexander appeared on the soap from 1965 to 2021 and will be remembered as the mom of Laura Spencer (Genie Francis).
Tristan Rogers Starred as Robert Scorpio
Beloved soap legend Tristan Rogers played Robert Scorpio for 45 years and passed away last August of lung cancer, just one month after his final appearance.
Unexpected Character Deaths
Cyrus Renault (Jeff Kober) exited PC last February. He was shot dead by Josslyn Jacks (Eden McCoy) in the middle of his killing spree and not many characters mourned his death.
Renault killed Sam McCall (Kelly Monaco) and Dex Heller (Evan Hofer) and was recently seen in one of Laura’s nightmares.
Also written off in 2025 were Natalia Rogers-Ramirez (Eva LaRue) and Professor Henry Dalton (Daniel Goddard).
Natalia overdosed in July and her son Marco Rios (Adrian Anchondo) is now seeking revenge on the man he blames for her death, Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard).
Henry Dalton was onscreen for a few short months and murdered in cold blood by Jenz Sidwell (Carlo Rota) in November.
Rena Sofer Exits as Lois Cerullo
Lois Cerullo (Rena Sofer) left in October after admitting she lied about Gio Palmieri (Giovanni Mazza) to Brook Lynn Quartermaine (Amanda Setton).
Lois’ mom, and Brook Lynn’s grandma, Gloria Cerullo (Ellen Travolta), was also exiled over her part in the Gio controversy.
Sofia Mattsson’s (Sasha Gilmore) contract was not renewed and Jonathan Jackson left in April 2025 after rejoining the show in August 2024–blink and you missed Lucky Spencer.
Speaking of departures, we last saw Kirsten as Maxie Jones in August, reportedly due to a move to Nashville and health issues. Storms is set to return early this year when Maxie wakes up from a coma.
Finally, the show recast the role of WSB chief Jack Brennan with Chris McKenna after Charles Mesure exited the role in January 2025. McKenna first appeared in February and continues to air as of this date.
