General Hospital star Maurice Benard opened up about his favorite storyline on the hit ABC soap. Keep reading below for everything you need to know.
Maurice Benard Says The Alzheimer’s Storyline Hit Home
In an interview with Hollywood Outbreak, Maurice, who plays Sonny Corinthos on the soap, said that when it came to picking his favorite storyline, he had many, but there was one that stood out the most.
He said, “I think at this point, was the Alzheimer’s story. Just because it’s a storyline that, it was during a rough time, and I had to come in and play that my…Sonny had to play that my father was dying of Alzheimer’s. And at that time, my real father was dying of Alzheimer’s.”
Maurice added, “So I came in and I knew that I just had to say the lines—don’t act, don’t overdo anything, just say it. And it’s the difference between acting it and living it. And I was living it, literally living it.”
The daytime television star also had a lot of praise for his co-stars. He said, “Max [Gail, Mike] was amazing. Laura [Wright, Carly] was amazing. So many actors were so incredible. Yeah, it was amazing.”
What’s Next For Maurice Benard?
Of course, many General Hospital fans have also commented on the matter with, “Haven’t been much of a Sonny fan since the early 00s when he began consuming the show, but I could easily name 5 stories that have involved Sonny that were better than the Mike dying story.”
Another fan wrote, “Of the 2 recent Alzheimer’s stories, GH’s was good but Y&R’s was the one that actually touched me….. perhaps because the person involved, Dina, was the original actress who had much more long term connections with a whole family.”
“Mike wasn’t the original actor and except for Sonny, he really didn’t have much history with anyone else, imo. And this may be unpopular, but I don’t think Benard did that great of an acting job.”
Of course, GH fans will simply have to tune in each and every day to find out what will happen next.
