BTS Announces New Documentary “No BTS Without ARMY” as Members Finish Enlistment
It’s a brand new day for ARMY everywhere, especially since the news emerged that Suga has completed his mandatory military enlistment. In case you don’t know why our favorite boy band has been on hiatus since 2022, let me fill you in real quick.
In 2022, BigHit Entertainment announced that all seven members of BTS have agreed to honor their mandatory military enlistment, instead of seeking special treatment. On June 2024, Jin, their eldest member, became the first to complete his enlistment. Last week, Suga became the final member of BTS to complete his.
What’s next for these global giants? Well, I hear rumors of a tour, but what’s been confirmed is a fan documentary. Like whaaaaat?
New BTS Documentary To Dive Into the Fanbase That Fuels the Global K-pop Icons
Since the band’s debut, the BTS ARMY has been a constant source, supporting their music, their albums, going on their tours and live shows, and nominating them for the most prestigious prices. In fact, their fanbase is so massive that they’ve Top Social Artist at Billboard Music Awards for five years in a row. Their numbers have grown steadily since the band’s early days, but the support remains strong and unbending.
Some people have moved to South Korea just to feel closer and be at the center of the band’s musical and cultural influence. And now these types of people, among others, get to have their own little time to shine thanks to a documentary poignantly titled, ‘BTS ARMY: Forever We Are Young.’
“There is no BTS without Army and no Army without BTS,” said the film’s award winning co-director and producer Grace Lee.
“We’re excited for audiences to go on an emotional journey and meet a fandom that made us laugh, cry and think,” director and producer Patty Ahn said. “We were constantly moved by the fans’ power, resilience, creativity and humor and hope audiences will be too.”
These days, the era of fanbases seem to be dwindling, with Olivia Rodrigo’s Livies among the last of the truly great and organized ones. But no fanbase has achieved the level of unity, collaboration and dedicated charity as the ARMY has.
They’re not just one age-range, but actually encompass different genders across different generations. This is probably why they’ve earned the right to an indepth documentary.
“The global impact of BTS is undeniable, not just as artists, but as a cultural movement,” said Kymberli Frueh, senior vice-president of content acquisitions and programming at Trafalgar Releasing. “We are proud to bring this film to big screens across the globe to celebrate the impact of the fans themselves who have supported BTS every step of the way.”
The documentary will premiere in theaters on July 30. So save the date.
