You Won’t Believe Who Donald Trump Wants As the Next Pope
With Pope Francis’ funeral over, the Catholic world is looking forward to anointing the next Pope. I’m sure a lot of people have opinions on who they’ll like to wield the position easily enough – especially if you happen to know a few names in the College of Cardinals, but I’m not sure how many would so willingly self-nominate themselves for the role.
Give it up to US President Donald Trump for being one of the first, if not the first, to nominate himself for the prestigious position that serves Catholic’s 1.4 billion devouts worldwide.
Donald Trump Believes He Would Make A Great Pope
Donald Trump has always held optimistic views about a lot of things, but perhaps openly declaring he fits the criteria to become the Pope – and on top of that, is he even a Catholic? – might just be one of those that top the list.
Speaking in a rally to mark his first 100 days in office, Donald Trump said, “I’d like to be Pope. That would be my number one choice.”
Of course this comment was so made in the spirit of jest, though I confess it might have been too much for some Roman Catholics and they couldn’t bite back a scathing reaction.

Senate Throws His Weight Behind Trump’s Funny Bid To Become A Pope
Next week, the Roman Catholic Church will elect its next Pope from its college of Cardinals. This will see 135 cardinals under the age of 80 travel from around the world to the Sistine Chapel in Rome, where the next pope will be chosen in a series of ballots.
Even though the US President by no means fits the bill, Republican Senator Lindsey Graham couldn’t help imagining what it’d be like for the Republican President to be the leader of the biggest religious group in the world.
He posted on X: “This would truly be a dark horse candidate, but I would ask the papal conclave and Catholic faithful to keep an open mind about this possibility!”
“The first Pope-President combination has many upsides. Watching for white smoke…. Trump MMXXVIII!”
Apart from Trump’s unlikely bid, the names likely to come up as Pope include Cardinal Timothy Dolan, the Archbishop of New York, Italy’s Pietro Parolin, the Philippines’ Luis Antonio Tagle and Guinea’s Robert Sarah.
