In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the actor suggested that the majority of Americans are either uneducated or ill-informed and that’s why they make the decisions that they do.
Alec said, “Television news in the United States is a business. They have to make money. There’s a hole. There’s a vacuum. There is a gap, if you will, in information for Americans.”
“Americans are very uninformed about reality – what’s really going on. With climate change, Ukraine, Israel… You name it, all the biggest topics in the world, Americans have an appetite for a little bit of information.”
Baldwin continued, “That vacuum is filled by the film industry. Not just the independent film industry, not just the documentary film industry – which are very important around the world. But by narrative films, as well. Where the filmmakers and the buyers, the studios, and the networks and the streamers, are willing to go that way. They’re willing to try it.”
Did Alec Baldwin Go A Little Too Far With His Comments?
It goes without saying that the internet certainly did have a lot to say about the matter on their end.
Some comments have even included, “What an evil idiot; he’s in denial about his ignorance but too narcissistic to realize it. He will be held accountable for his evil doings.”
“What does any actor know about anything? They should stick to acting, he knows nothing about the world, economics, business as well as the struggles everyday Americans go through.”
Another critic wrote, “A Hollywood grifter whose time has long passed. Upset at a world that no longer follows, cares or agrees with the manufactured monologues he dedicated his life to studying. A truly sad and irrelevant man.”
And then there was this comment as well: “Remind me which party had a billion dollar budget and went over that budget?”
“Hey Alec, I’ve got a great screenplay & you would be perfect for the lead. The protagonist blows his brains out at the end so you need to go ahead and start rehearsing.”
So far Alec Baldwin himself has not made any additional comments about the criticism that he’s received.
