General Hospital: Tragic Details About John J. York

General Hospital news says that sometimes you think you know everything there is to know about your favorite daytime television star until you realize there’s so much more to learn about them. This time around we are talking about actor John J. York, who plays Mac Scorpio on the hit ABC soap. John definitely has not had the best year on record, but with the strength and love of his family, his friends, and of course his General Hospital fans, John is going to power through with his latest health battle. Keep reading below for everything you need to know.

General Hospital: Tragic Details About John J. York

According to Soap Opera Digest, John was diagnosed just last year with two blood and bone marrow cancers, myelodysplastic syndrome and multiple smoldering myeloma. He has now officially begun his life-saving transplant. John was lucky to find a donor on BeTheMatch.org but had to go through months of grueling tests.

In September, the actor announced that he would be leaving General Hospital over a frightening health condition. The news definitely had a lot of his fans very concerned. He wrote on social media, “And here it is. So last December, of ’22, I was diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndromes, or MDS, and multiple smoldering myeloma, two blood and bone marrow disorders. Over the past many months, I’ve had three bone marrow biopsies, many chemo treatments, I have another one coming up in a couple of weeks, and I’m closing in on a blood stem cell transplant. I’ve been working with some wonderful people at Be The Match to find a potential donor on their registry.”

The actor continued, “If it’s possible and you would consider being a donor, joining their registry, for not just me but thousands and thousands of other people who are in need of a donor, go to bethematch.org/matchformac.”

Fast-forward to November, and John’s General Hospital co-star Jon Lindstrom admitted that his friend was in need of prayers. Sharing a photo of his dear friend, Jon wrote on his Twitter account, “I hope you’ll all take just a minute today to send some healing thoughts to my friend John J. York. It’s a big week and we would all appreciate your help. Thank you.”

Jon has also given an update on his condition and hospitalization. The daytime television star told People, “The first week is an 8-day process of heavy-duty chemo, where I’ll probably lose my hair, and that’s OK. And, you know, there’s just all kinds of issues. I could, I could pass away. I mean, maybe not from the chemo, but when the transplant starts. So after the eight days of these different chemo treatments that they’re doing, they’re basically wiping my body of what I’ve been living with in terms of my blood and DNA and all this stuff for my entire life. They’re wiping that clean and then they’re gonna put new stuff in me from the donor. And that’s going to be the new me.”

Kristina Wagner, his friend and General Hospital co-star, also shared a photo on her Twitter account and wrote, “@JohnJYork with his medical team, Dr. Kassim, and medical practitioner, Anne. Chemo starts this week. The transplant is scheduled for the 17th.”
