SNL Rips Into Meghan Markle Again With This Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor Comparison
Meghan Markle is once again finding herself the butt of another joke by the Saturday Night Live (SNL).
It seems that a year won’t go by if the Duchess of Sussex isn’t mocked on national television, or doesn’t go viral for inspiring a new ‘South Park’ episode.
We’re barely in March, and the former American actress’s name is already catching laughs on America’s long-running sketch comedy series.
SNL Cheekily Evaluates Andrew’s Endangered Position In the Monarchy’s Line of Succession
Former Prince Andrew’s position in the monarchy is in a precarious position right now, and though it actually hasn’t been announced that he will be permanently removed from the line of succession, the motion to streak his name has already started.
Both Australia and New Zealand have cast their votes to have him removed, and royal expert Phil Dampier predicts it would be done in “six months.”
With this in mind, the SNL has taken the initiative to imagine a world where Andrew would be allowed to succeed the British throne. Thanks to Andrew’s wide-eyed post-arrest photo, the joke really hit more at home.
Flashing the now infamous picture of Andrew at the camera, SNL presenter Colin Jost drew a fine thread from Andrew to Meghan Markle.
“Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, the former Prince and current river corpse, has been arrested and now may be banned from ever taking the throne.
In fact, the royal family have said that the only way he can become King is if it comes down to either him or Meghan,” he said, proceeding to flash a picture of Meghan at the screen.
Laughs could be heard from the crowd, with Jost himself joining in.
Of course, the sketch became a moment online, with dozens sharing their opinions on it.
“That he laughed at the joke at the end tops it all off so well. So many in the media/showbiz in the US & Canada seem to allow H&M to get away with all their despicable behaviour, it’s nice to see someone acknowledge how despicable M is,” one wrote.
Another said: “Throughout history the monarchy has faced problems but the present day monarchy is a quagmire. There needs to be some deep housecleaning.”
Talking of “deep cleaning,” royal biographer Jennie Bond suggested removing Andrew and his daughters, and Prince Harry and his children, from the line of succession. Now that’s cleaning house.
It remains to be seen whether the government will support it.
