The Young and the Restless Star Veronica Redd Opens Up About Her Return To Genoa City
Speaking to Daytime Confidential in a new interview, the multi-talented actress was asked about her role as Mamie Johnson back in the nineties and how it felt for her to become a matriarch on the show during that time. At first, Veronica says that she had no idea that her character would go in that direction. She explained, “So, I stepped into a very mature role. I always thought that I was a very mature person, but I was not that in age. It’s always been a challenge for me to play a character who is very different from me. I’m not so much a matriarch as much as I am a fun aunt. I’m the one who is out on the dance floor, and I love all of the latest music. I love being able to sit down and have girl talk. It’s not what I always thought a matriarch was, so it’s an acting challenge. But I step up to it!”
What’s Next For Veronica Redd?
Veronica was also asked about her best memories from working on The Young and the Restless. She said that it was really the only job she’s ever had. She said of her character, “Mamie was always there for everyone else, and it was a quite a contrast of who I was. However, the balance that came out of it is something I feel very I’m proud of. I do think that she’s helped to mold the mature woman that I have become.”
Now, as far as how it felt like to be back, Veronica explained, “I also felt like I missed a lot of people who had gone on. Jerry Douglas (John Abbott) would have just been there all the time. I’ve been listening to everybody’s voices and their cadences, and I just knew I was missing his voice. I don’t think I realized until I was back how much I really missed his voice, personality, and his character.”
