The Young And The Restless Spoilers: Is Billy Flynn’s Reimagined Cane Character Believable?
The Young and the Restless spoilers document that Billy Flynn’s (Cane Ashby) reemergence was handled in an excessively theatrical fashion. The long-drip, cloaked reveal of Aristotle Dumas as actually being Cane was very soapy yet is arguably good storytelling.
However, one of the additional reveals is that Cane is instantly injected into a triangle. He, Lily Winters (Christel Khalil), and Damian Kane (Jermaine Rivers) are part of a projected power struggle.
Damian swapping distrusted places with Cane in Lily’s mind is interesting. However, as Khalil’s character vehemently told her ex-husband and father of their twins, his hoped-for reunion is delusional.
A Begged Cane Ashby Question
Daniel Goddard (Cane) played this character from 2007 through 2019. That actor didn’t hide his feelings on social media after his contract wasn’t renewed, explaining his surprising cast exit as a partial closing of the Winters’ angle on the show.
The daytime world, as is true all over the entertainment world for all of known history, is a brutal way to make a living. Very few ever achieve the break Goddard did.
Goddard was born in 1971. Flynn was born in 1985.
Along with the recast to an available known daytime quantity in Flynn, it’s fair to assume that decision-makers wanted a younger Cane. Khalil was born in 1987.
Goddard was presumably available to work, but Flynn became the pick. Time will tell if it was the right one.
Lily Winters Harbors Grievances
One of the hallmarks of daytime drama is the harboring and mining of grievances. Good storytelling is believed to play off the exploration of seemingly unforgivable acts. The irredeemable outlook can be seen as reflective of the real-world Hollywood’s mindset.
What about forgiveness, grace, and old-fashioned second chances?
Well, that goes against a me-first, if-it-feels-good culture that is prevalent in what Genoa City, Wisconsin, represents.
So, as a hurt Cane told Lily, she was being hypocritical of him when citing his veiled persona and resulting actions. The audience knew their emotional exchanges on the grand estate weren’t about logic.
Damian Kane Is A Worthy Adversary
As the revived and returned Cane seeks to become an adversary of Victor Newman (Eric Braeden), who is the king of all grievance culture personas, Damian is the greater current foe.
Lily is fond of Damian, as her admission of wanting to kiss him affirms. Rivers’ addition to the cast is solid, as the continued building out of his backstory unfolds nicely.
Cane is attempting to become a business player in his return to what he calls home while also believing he can win back his one true love. The triangle he wants to enter may prove to be compelling. But fans will need a textured plot to buy it this summer and beyond.
