A lot of viewers were left offended by a tableau that evoked Leonardo da Vinci’s ‘The Last Supper’ during the Paris 2024 Olympics opening ceremony. That’s because a lot of people believed that the scene made a mockery of Christianity.
Of course, many critics of the show sure did have a lot to say about the matter on social media.
When British personality Piers Morgan, who often has something or another to say about current events on almost a daily basis wrote, “Btw, what the f*ck was all this about? A drag queen mockery of the Last Supper at the Olympics? Would they have mocked any other religion like this? Appalling decision,” the internet sure did follow his lead.
Other comments included, “Disgraceful. Just imagine if they did something like to kick Islam… there would be riots within an hour and the Eiffel Tower would be smashed down.”
“I’m sure the anger will subside when the Olympic Committee clarifies which of the figures depicted the Prophet Mohammed.”

Another critic wrote, “Just think, they try to be inclusive yet it alienates such a large percentage of viewers. Can’t we just show fireworks, and normal people running with the torch, and introducing countries/athletes?”

And then there was this comment as well, “It looks like the time for the Olympics has passed. There must be better ways for people to compete at Olympic level other than have grand masses congregate in one place.”
“I am beginning to miss the Qatar World Cup again. They demonstrated the highest level of respect than what we are seeing from the European counterpart.”
