General Hospital Spoilers: What’s With the Downplaying of Nathan and Lulu Betraying Maxie?
General Hospital spoilers exclaim not everyone is happy about this burgeoning romance between Lulu Spencer (Alexa Havins Bruening) and Nathan West (Ryan Paevey).
What gives with these two? One snowstorm and a bottle of booze and they can’t keep their hands to themselves? There’s something to be said for loneliness, but that’s not what this is. Both Lulu and Nathan have more integrity and wherewithal than that.
They’ve shared one kiss and suddenly they’re both deep in their feelings and thinking there is no way they can turn their cheek and move on like adults without breaking the trust of the people they hold most dear.
But can we talk about their family for a minute, because perhaps those containers shed light on who both of these people are?
It’s Been Four Months
Nathan has only been undead for four-ish months. Since he came careening back into Port Charles in his pick-up truck, he and Lulu have cozied up to each other and commiserated over how it feels to have lost so much time with their loved ones.
That’s funny, because their loved ones seemed to be the furthest thing from their minds when they were lip-locked.
Recall that when Nathan came back to town and woke up in that hospital room, he had no idea that seven years had passed.
He remembered being shot and suddenly he was waking up in a hospital bed. His love for Maxie hadn’t waned.
He should be at her bedside right now and twisted in knots over the idea that life has forced him to endure her having moved on with someone else.
Not having him pining over the woman he only knows as his wife and the love of his life seems a bit odd.
Dante Suddenly Doesn’t Matter
Last year, we also saw Dante Falconeri (Dominic Zamprogna) and Lulu admit they loved each other, but it wasn’t the right time for them to be together.
He was so upset with her for the role she played in outing the news of Giovanni ‘Gio’ Palmieri’s (Giovanni Mazza) adoption, on the heels of her waking up just as he had lost Sam McCall (Kelly Monaco).
It was all too much. But the dust has settled, and these two just spent Christmas together with their kids.
Fans might have been hoping they’d drift back together, but there’s nothing like her falling for his best friend to push him even farther away.
As for Nathan, if he doesn’t care about his own wife, I guess we shouldn’t be too surprised that he isn’t super worried about his best bud turned boss.
The Family That Cheats Together
But the real hangup I’m having with this storyline isn’t that two people who aren’t supposed to have feelings for each other developed those feelings anyway.
That happens all the time and on a spectrum from mere attraction to lust to very real love. But I expected a bit more caution from Laura Collins (Genie Francis) than she gave to Lulu.
GH used this as a mother-daughter bonding moment, and I’m not sure Laura would have offered the advice she did in any other situation.
She has no idea how Maxie will feel about this, after all. Nina Reeves’ (Cynthia Watros) opinion was a bit more reserved, but she still beamed from ear to ear when Nathan confessed he had feelings for Lulu.
How could Maxie not be Nina’s first thought? I can’t be the only one who feels this way. Sound off, GH fans, and stay tuned for more GH news and spoilers just ahead.
