General Hospital Spoilers: Everything To Know About Daniel Cosgrove, The New Ezra Boyle On GH
General Hospital spoilers and updates reveal everything you need to know about Daniel Cosgrove, the new Councilman Ezra Boyle on the show. He made his debut on the episode of March 21, and already the character’s creating controversy!
Daniel Originally Auditioned For The Recast Of The Jack Brennan Role
At the beginning of the year, Cosgrove received an opportunity to join the ABC soap, but he was uncertain when he first heard from his representatives. “On January 1, New Year’s Day, I noticed two missed calls from my agent and manager, followed by a text from my manager saying, ‘Hey, call us when you can,’” he shares. “I thought, ‘This must be the day they’re letting me go.’
I called them back, and they asked if I’d be interested in auditioning for a role on GH. A few months earlier, I probably wouldn’t have been interested, but once the chance came up, I was like, ‘Absolutely;’” the role was a recast for Jack Brennan.
Chris McKenna Got The Role Of Brennan, But Daniel Found He Was Among Old Friends And Castmates
The part was given to Chris McKenna, which Cosgrove thinks is completely reasonable. However, there was a positive side for him.
He shares, “I had the chance to read with Laura Wright (Carly Spencer), whom I hadn’t seen since my Guiding Light days.” Cosgrove played Bill Lewis while she portrayed Cassie Layne on that show; he continued, “Then they asked if I was interested in a new character, and I said, ‘Absolutely.’ That character turned out to be Ezra Boyle; they shared a bit about him and mentioned a couple of people I would be working with, but they kept most details under wraps. Now, I’ve been filming for about a month and a half.”
On TV Again-Unexpectedly!
Cosgrove’s return to a TV set is quite surprising, as he had stepped back from the industry in recent years. “I haven’t been auditioning,” he shares. “I took a break during the actors’ strike in 2023. I found a regular job teaching acting and selling Jeeps, and I thought I was done with the business.
But this opportunity has sparked something in me, filling me with appreciation, excitement, and love for acting. I arrive hours early, and I don’t mean to sound cheesy, but every single day feels like a gift.”
There Were Challenges, But He’s Doing Fine
Cosgrove shares that he had some worries before starting; “I was concerned that I would be too rusty to memorize anything, but that wasn’t the case at all,” he says. “I’ve been able to concentrate fully on my tasks; I learn my lines by adlibbing and singing them-I try various methods.” Regarding his character’s role in Port Charles, Cosgrove explains, “He is involved in the political plot and is a skilled politician.
Initially, he seems to be teaming up with Drew Quartermaine (Cameron Mathison), and there are some antics happening, but he interacts with many characters. Those include Mayor Laura Collins (Genie Francis) and the Quartermaines, creating a bit of trouble for some of the residents of Port Charles.
He Had Fun Reconnecting With Cameron Mathison
Cosgrove has enjoyed reconnecting with Mathison; the two actors last worked together on All My Children in the 1990s, where Mathison played Ryan Lavery and Cosgrove played Scott Chandler.
“I joined All My Children in October ’96, and I think Cameron came on board in early ’97,” Cosgrove remembers. “It was both of our first shows, and we were part of a storyline with a group of four characters at the start, which was a lot of fun.
I hadn’t seen him since then—maybe at an event once or twice—but we spent a lot of time reminiscing and looking at old photos from our days in Pine Valley.
It was wonderful; even though decades have passed, it felt like just a few years had gone by-we were in our mid-20s, just starting our careers.
Coast-To-Coast Commutes
The actor from the East Coast is traveling to Los Angeles for his new role, and he’s perfectly okay with it. “We’ll see how it turns out,” he says; “I’ve done commutes before, so it’s just part of the job” and he feels incredibly grateful for this opportunity. “I’m filled with gratitude for being able to do this,” Cosgrove shares; “While on set, I thought to myself, ‘This is where my journey has taken me, this is nwhat I excel at.’ “I truly enjoy being on set-Now that I’m older and have gained so many experiences, my favorite memories aren’t about landing this job or performing a great scene.
They’re about the relationships I’ve built; I often think of the people I’ve worked with, especially on shows like Guiding Light, Days of our Lives (Aiden Jennings) All My Children, and others.
Daniel Very Much Values Relationships And People
Daniel continues, “It’s the bonds formed not only with the actors but also with the crew that stand out to me, along with the laughter and connections we share.
I didn’t fully appreciate this when I was younger, but now I truly value it, and what I cherish most is being able to go to work and nurture these relationships.
This is something I look forward to in the near future; I feel excited when the next script arrives for my upcoming show,” Cosgrove shares enthusiastically.
“It takes me back to the anticipation of waiting for the Sears Roebuck Christmas catalog as a child. I can’t wait to discover what’s in store for my character.”
