They are telling the United States to back off. And by that, they mean back way off. Denmark is to deploy two extra dog sled teams to Greenland after Trump voiced his intention to acquire the territory.

Per the latest reports, Denmark has announced a large boost in defense spending after Trump said Greenland was an “absolute necessity” for the US. The country said the package was in the “double-digit billion amount,” equal to about $1.5B USD.

The package will go towards funding two more inspection ships, two more long-range drones, two extra dog sled teams, funding for more staffing at Artic Command in Nuuk, and upgrades to airports.

Danish Defence Minister Troels Lund Poulsen claims the timing of the announcement is an “irony of fate” and was something that needed to be done for a long time.

Of course, the internet certainly did have a lot to say about the matter. Some fans and critics even commented with, “This just makes us and Trump look silly. Also we can’t just take Greenland from the Danish because they are a NATO country and we are in NATO and we would have to defend them from us.”

“Oh boy I can’t believe we are even spending time on this.”

Another critic wrote, “Greenland is a strategic military location for the US to properly defend the so called NATO Allies who can’t even meet its 2% of their GDP to maintain its commitments to being a NATO ally.”

“Trump isn’t stupid, he’s a big picture strategist. Our politicians have in tje US and in NATO have diverted from our global security to woke social issues that have weakened us while our enemies have grown influence, wealth and technology.”

And then there was this comment as well: “Trump is making a point that a country like Denmark and other NATO countries are too reliant on the generosity of the US to defend them, while at the same time treat the US as its subordinate in trade deals and not entertaining the proposal that Greenland should be considered for sale to the US to maintain proper security as a US military outpost.”
