General Hospital star John J. York, who is best known for his role as Mac Scorpio on the hit ABC Soap, has had one heck of a ride these past several years. General Hospital: New Tragic Details About John J. York
John is a General Hospital legend as he began appearing on the show back in 1983. The youngest of six children, he was born in Chicago in 1958. Along with his work on daytime television, he’s also appeared on the network television shows Werewolf, Drake and Josh Go Hollywood and in Wizards of Waverly Place.
In his personal life, John was brought up as a Catholic. He and his wife Vickie Manners have been married since 1986 and they have one daughter.
Unfortunately, John was hit with a major health blow in late 2022. The actor was diagnosed with two blood and bone marrow disorders. He also has multiple smoldering myeloma. He underwent a stem cell transplant in December and admitted that he has a long road ahead of him. He told his fans on social media, “Hopefully, hopefully, if things go the way they are, maybe [I’ll] be back on the show late spring, early summer.”

He also added, “I just wanted to thank you all so very much for all your notes and messages of support, encouragement and all the love you’ve been sending my way.”
John hasn’t given an update since, but his fans have been sharing their support for him. Some have commented on his post with, “As a Leukemia survivor, I know your journey is tough. Thinking of you my strong friend. Trust your journey! You and God got this!” along with, “Your #Gh fans have all been praying for you. We Love and Adore you to pieces. You’re a gift to your fans.”
