Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy Says He’s Grateful For Prince William And Kate Middleton’s Support, Ignores Prince Harry And Meghan Markle’s Statement

There’s only so many people he can thank at a time, apparently. Even though Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has much more pressing matters to deal with at the moment – like trying to stop the Russian military from completely occupying or worse, destroying his country – he did take the time out to show his gratitude for Prince William and Kate Middleton for their message of support to the Ukrainian people. Here’s what you need to know.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy Says He’s Grateful For Prince William And Kate Middleton’s Support, Ignores Prince Harry And Meghan Markle’s Statement

Zelenskyy tweeted from his official account which said he and his wife were grateful for William and Kate’s message in which they fondly remembered their meeting in 2020.

The statement read: “Olena and I are grateful to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge @RoyalFamily that at this crucial time, when Ukraine is courageously opposing Russia’s invasion, they stand by our country and support our brave citizens. Good will triumph.”

And while Prince Harry and Meghan Markle did rush out a message of support for Ukraine a few days before the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge did, Zelenskky did not make any mention of the Sussexes. But then again, they also aren’t official working members of the British royal family, either.

That said, Harry and Meghan’s message on their Archewell site did read as: “Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex and all of us at Archewell stand with the people of Ukraine against this breach of international and humanitarian law and encourage the global community and its leaders to do the same.”

Meanwhile, Buckingham Palace announced that Queen Elizabeth decided to postpone a diplomatic reception that was initially scheduled for March 2 at Windsor Castle, due to the ongoing crisis developing out of Ukraine. “The Queen has accepted the Foreign Secretary’s advice that the Diplomatic Reception at Windsor on Wednesday 2nd March should be postponed,” reads the statement.

The Queen and other members of the Royal Family were set to welcome over 500 members of the diplomatic corps for an annual meeting. There’s no word on whether it will be rescheduled.
