The Young and the Restless spoilers document that Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) recognized Sally Spectra (Courtney Hope) as his destiny. That’s why she agreed to marry him and become part of the Abbott family.
Billy’s family origin story includes his deceased father, the vaunted John Abbott (Jerry Douglas). Devoted viewers recall the storyline where Jill Abbott (last played by Lauren Koslow, with Jess Walton having portrayed the character for many decades before her) was determined to have John’s child and did.
The birth of Billy happened in 1993 in real time. The character was eventually SORAS’d (soap opera rapid aging syndrome), and after multiple recasts, Thompson assumed the role ten years ago.
Billy’s complicated family situation has been building for some time, with his wedding plans and Jill’s return raising questions about the Abbott family’s future.
It’s not just that Jill has a complicated relationship with her younger son, Billy. The audience knows that she’s had sticky connections with many residents of Genoa City, Wisconsin.
Her most famous relationship was with the Grand Dame, Katherine Chancellor (Jeanne Cooper). However, by the end of Katherine’s life, they admitted caring for each other.
Of course, the above came long after their infamous battle over Phillip Chancellor II (Donnelly Rhodes) and the son, Phillip Chancellor III (Thom Bierdz), whom Jill had with him.
That storyline was one of the most explosive in the history of The Young and the Restless, with Jill debuting during its inaugural season in 1973.
To think that Billy would get married, welcome the birth of another child, and learn that his mother might be dying on the same day is mind-boggling. It’s no wonder that he was spinning.
However, he pulled himself together with Cane Ashby’s (Billy Flynn) help. To his great credit, Cane has worked hard to forge a relationship with Billy since returning to prominence in GC.
Billy’s love for Sally is unquestioned. Together, they will be great parents to their wonderful new baby daughter, Ruby.
But Billy also needs to deal with the imminent threat his mother is facing.
Jill’s heart attack could lead to her death, which would remove one of this show’s legacy characters.
So, going to visit Jill, despite having to leave his new wife and newborn baby, makes sense.
As previously explored in Billy’s agonizing choice and Jill’s medical crisis, the newlyweds have been forced to confront an emotional family emergency.
Lily Winters (Christel Khalil) never stopped loving Cane. She also didn’t forget about him after he left the country.
They were sporadically in touch while he was working clandestinely with his father to build Arabesque, fronted by the Aristotle Dumas persona.
Now, long after he dropped the alias and surrendered his revenge goals, Lily is open to Cane’s desire to reconcile.
Thankfully, she shared what proved to be only concerns about her cancer returning with him.
The possibility of another reunion has also raised questions about whether Lily and Cane can overcome their troubled history.
So, the cancer scare was hopefully averted. The next step would go beyond warm feelings and dating.
Viewers can anticipate an engagement request before the end of this calendar year and possibly hear Lily say yes to a third marriage with Cane.
Billy has finally made some mature decisions, and choosing to be with his seriously ill mother is one of them. Sally understands how important family is, especially now that they have a daughter of their own.
As for Lily and Cane, another engagement would certainly be interesting. However, Cane has a long history of keeping secrets, and Lily would be wise to make sure he’s truly changed before agreeing to marry him again.
Do you think Lily should give Cane another chance, or would marrying him again be a mistake?
