But Patty Williams’ (Stacy Haiduk) momentary suspicion passed after she decided that seeing Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) made Matt her second priority.
Viewers suspected that Patty giving Matt her burner phone number would get these characters into some form of intense drama.
Why have her trail Phyllis to Matt’s hotel room, provide him with contact information, and then only have that result in a few-minute phone call?
Phyllis’ suspicions about Matt’s inner thoughts are worth exploring. It could be that he will leave Genoa City, Wisconsin, despite her hopes that he remains.
Jamey Giddens and Dan O’Connor were hired earlier this summer. The new head co-writers of the show are currently working, with their first script teased to be seen on-screen as of November 11.
Savvy soap fans know that writing staff changes are part of this genre for many understandable reasons. The nature of a five-day-a-week, year-round grind creates a shelf life for many writers or writing staffs.
Of course, fan tastes and ratings drive behind-the-scenes decisions, including one of the most key choices being who writes the show.
So, it’s reasonable to conclude that if Patty and Matt are still in GC by the time Giddens and O’Connor’s work appears, they could or will be affected.
Patty has evaded the law on so many occasions. She’s currently on the lam again. So, it would seem hard to imagine that she’ll be a regular presence for the next two months.
That would stretch the suspension of disbelief scenario beyond what could be considered reasonable. Although she could disappear or escape in the next week-plus and then return in the fall.
The former figment of Patty’s imagination, Miss Kitty, has been replaced by her apparent feline brother. Mr. Kitty was Patty’s scene partner, which allowed Haiduk to have someone to interact with while she was contemplating her next attempt to reconcile with Jack.
Matt wasn’t seen in GC for nearly a quarter-century. He returned with another new face in the form of Howarth, who has been quite simply outstanding.
Howarth’s name appears below the regular contract players. That doesn’t necessarily mean Matt will absolutely leave GC or be killed off.
If exiting head writer Josh Griffith intended for Matt to live on, Giddens and O’Connor want the same, and Howarth is fine with that, it will happen. But Matt could easily achieve desired redemption by sacrificing his life to stop Patty.
That type of a dramatic exit would be very dramatic. But it would become one of the more memorable storyline climaxes in recent memory if Patty is also simultaneously killed off, ending the reign of two of this soap opera’s all-time villains.
