This month saw Meghan Markle travel with their kids to the UK and join Prince Harry, who arrived earlier to take part in a number of charity engagements.
However, due to the the fact that the Sussexes were denied security, they reportedly could not remain in the UK for very long.
In addition to this, King Charles only made space in his calendar for one afternoon tea. Not the best reception to a family member you haven’t seen in years, now is it?
Meghan Markle Reportedly Felt Tense During King Charles Reunion At Highgrove House
Meghan Markle’s UK visit has been branded a “nightmare” for the Duchess by those closest to her. Not only had the security issue and the last minute accommodation withdrawal set her on edge, the actual reception when she walked into Highgrove House to meet her in-laws for the first time in years was not exactly what she expected.
Per sources, there was a lack of warmth and the familial comfort that one would expect when meeting with family. Though currently unconfirmed, it’s been rumored that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were checked for wires before being admitted into the property.
The July meeting allowed King Charles to meet his overseas-based grandchildren for the first time since 2022. Charles was said to have been moved by the reunion, with an insider claiming that meeting Archie, 7, and Lilibet, 5, meant a lot to the monarch.
Though details are still kept under wraps, it’s predictable that gifts were exchanged during the short meeting, with the children being said to have arrived back in Montecito, California, “happy.”
Another factor that reportedly weighed on Meghan regarding the reunion meeting was the presence of Queen Camilla.
It’s been speculated that the King requested for Camilla’s presence in order to ensure that the meeting was witnessed by a third party. This is probably to keep the media-savvy Sussexes from spinning details of the reunion whichever way the money flows.
While I’ll stress that details of the meeting are still largely unknown, it’s possible that discussions regarding Harry and Meghan’s standing in the monarchy were touched on.
After all, it didn’t take long after the meeting for Harry to label “Prince of England” as one of his occupations.
