The drug overdose has created ongoing issues and is exacerbated by the man who created that problem not leaving Genoa City, Wisconsin.
Matt Clark (Roger Howarth) is the bane of Nick’s existence. He’s recently been testy after concluding that no one is going to give him slack, except Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford).
Sharon Newman (Sharon Case) shares the longest period of negative history with Matt. She told him it would be best if he left GC, and he intended to do so until Phyllis intervened.
Nick is attending meetings. Apparently he’s going to ninety meetings in ninety days.
Some might view the above prescription as comprehensive. Others could see it as overkill, but whether the overall path to recovery works remains to be seen.
Dealing with the loss of Newman Enterprises applied stress to the entire Newman family.
But Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) has reclaimed it from Phyllis, whom he gave the remnants of Arabesque to as a supposed reward for helping to save Nick’s life.
Nikki Newman’s (Melody Thomas Scott) continued blindness has Nick on edge as well.
Her outlook isn’t completely dire because Nikki’s doctor feels vision could be restored in a matter of weeks, though there’s no guarantee.
Nick could believe what he was seeing. But yes, Phyllis was kissing Matt in the middle of the GC Athletic Club main dining room.
Matt believes that Phyllis is fond of him and that assessment is right. She seems to be both attracted to him based on their common outsider status and wanting to be tied to him because it prods GC society.
Nick is worried about Phyllis, and he should be. Matt is sincere about redemption, but his dangerous history could return with a vengeance at almost any time. Yet, Phyllis feels certain that she can manage him.
Matt has determined that Phyllis wants him to be her fixer. But how will he break free from Victor’s hold, where he fills the same current role?
Sharon should prove vital in this mix because she established a friendship with Phyllis in recent years. They care about each other and do come together from time to time when serious matters are at hand.
They both love Nick. But there will be no common ground where Matt is concerned.
Here’s hoping he remains true to his reform commitment and that Nick makes ongoing progress, with both ladies’ aid to the men they care about being important this summer and beyond.
Assuming all goes well, Nick and Matt will never be friends but should learn how to coexist in GC.
