There’s something captivating about the soap opera world that continually attracts people-a prime example? Jonathan Bennett, who began his career as JR Chandler on All My Children over twenty years ago, is making a return to daytime television.
This time, he’s staying within the ABC family, as he joins the cast of General Hospital-Deadline reported that Bennett will portray the character Joe Fitzpatrick.
General Hospital quickly shared a behind-the-scenes glimpse on Instagram, humorously noting: “He’s already tired of us telling him his hair looks sexy pushed back.
Welcome to the family, Jonathan Bennett!” Parry Shen (Brad Cooper) even chimed in the comments with, “That’s so fetch.”
We don’t have much information about his character yet. But the Mean Girls and Hallmark star (among other roles, including being the creator and host of the reality competition, Finding Mr. Christmas!) is expected to make his debut in May.
This leads us to consider two immediate thoughts. First, it’s far enough away that Lucas Jones (Van Hansis) might begin to heal from the tragic loss of Marco Rios (Adrian Anchondo).
While it may be premature to jump into a new romantic relationship, Joe could provide support for Lucas during his grieving process-and perhaps, in time, love could blossom.
Our other idea is that Joe is a perfect fit for the Nurses’ Ball-Bennett made his Broadway debut in 2024 with the revival of Spamalot, and he definitely has a wealth of experience in performing! Naturally, there’s no reason he couldn’t excel in both roles.
But if Joe and Lucas do end up developing feelings for one another, let’s hope the situation with Jenz Sidwell (Carlo Rota) and Ross Cullum (Andrew Hawkes) is a bit more resolved.
Because if Lucas isn’t cautious, he might find himself facing the same consequences as his partner! And let’s not forget about Brad-in response to Shen’s Mean Girls reference in the comments, one fan quickly suggested that Joe could be Brad’s romantic interest!
On another note, it’s worth considering that since Jonathan has already begun filming and will start appearing next month, he might be involved in one of several different story arcs.
If he plays a doctor, he could be a specialist treating the critically injured Jordan Ashford (Tanisha Harper) to help restore her appearance. Alternatively, he might be involved in the rescue of Anna Devane (Finola Hughes) or the takedown of Sidwell and Cullum.
