General Hospital’s Kate Mansi Talks Endometriosis & How Her Stepdad Saved Her Life

General Hospital spoilers indicate that as fans watch Molly Lansing-Davis (Kristen Vaganos) suffer through her endometriosis condition, Kate Mansi, who plays Molly’s sister, Kristina Corinthos-Davis, knows all too well what the character is going through.

Mansi recently talked to People about her illness and a situation where her stepdad saved her life.

March is Endometriosis Awareness Month

March is Endometriosis Awareness Month, and Mansi relayed a story from 2015 to People. Back then, she was working on Days of Our Lives as Abigail Deveraux and experienced some nausea, bleeding, pain, and bloating in her stomach.

The actress told People that it had gone on for a couple of days, but the doctors were dismissing her symptoms.

As she went to appointments, the doctors said the pain could be linked to her IUD turning, but an ultrasound revealed this wasn’t the case, so they fluffed it off as a ‘bad period’. They dismissed her throwing up as the flu.

While Mansi was still working on the Days set, she struggled through filming. She eventually drove to the emergency room and was met by her stepfather, who is an ob-gyn, as well as her mother.

Scans revealed an 11-cm mass on Mansi’s abdomen. Doctors suggested an oncologist consult; however, Mansi’s stepfather pushed for surgery.

Mansi notes that her stepdad was frustrated, and because he was not a “blood relation,” he was able to scrub for the operation. The actress recalls him stating, “I’m not waiting for an oncologist. I’m gonna do the surgery, or she’s not gonna make it.”

The surgery ended up saving Mansi’s life. It turns out that she had an ovarian cyst that was rupturing. Her stepdad found endometriotic tissue, which confirmed Mansi had the condition.
While her endometriosis symptoms have changed over the years, Mansi does say they are more stable now.

As mentioned, Mansi’s onscreen sister, Molly, was diagnosed with the condition in 2023. Fans can expect to see Molly have an in-depth conversation with Cody Bell (Josh Kelly) about her illness during the Monday, March 16 episode – a show Mansi directed.
