Deacon Sharpe (Sean Kanan) is in love with Taylor Hayes (Rebecca Budig) and intends to be with her, though he’s not sure how to make that happen.
Steffy Forrester Finnegan (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) learned about her mother’s dangerous situation in recent weeks. She’s been doing everything possible to try to prevent what’s seen as an inevitable life-threatening backlash from happening if Sheila were to directly or inadvertently learn the truth.
Taylor backed off Deacon after Steffy offered a terse ultimatum. Either she breaks up with Deacon, or Taylor wouldn’t be allowed to see her or the Finnegan grandchildren again. That made Steffy’s most recent catch all the more upsetting.
Sheila genuinely believes that Taylor was responsible for Deacon recommitting to his marriage. That’s true on a surface level, but when scratching less than an inch below it, Taylor’s face is revealed.
The scene where Deacon saw Taylor in his mind while he was with Sheila was ominous. Viewers knew that Kanan’s character wasn’t going to be able to continue to fool himself in that manner forever.
Taylor did talk Deacon into remaining married to Sheila, but that happened for reasons other than what Brown’s character thinks. Taylor heard Steffy’s warning and realized that the family was at risk if Sheila learned the truth. Yet, like Deacon, Taylor hasn’t been able to control her feelings.
The plot pretext was Deacon deciding that Sheila’s withholding information about Luna Nozawa (Lisa Yamada) being alive was too much. It wasn’t, but viewers sensed that trouble was coming, and it surely has.
Deacon allowed himself to stray. He’s broken his vows to Sheila on multiple occasions, with the first instance starting in his mind. Allowing himself to see Taylor or any woman as an option was amoral.
The steps Deacon’s taken toward Taylor have also been cloaked in lies, using therapy sessions with her as a cover. They’ve been having an affair right under Sheila’s nose. That meant they knowingly made a fool out of her, and anyone would be mad when learning that news.
Steffy has a habit of talking to various people about real and perceived problems. She transfers her authoritative role at Forrester Creations into aspects of family life.
Ridge Forrester (Thorsten Kaye) has done the same, with the most recent instance involving him deciding that his dad should retire. Ridge behaved like an executive who told an employee their employment was over. So, like father, like daughter in this instance.
Wood’s character has a proclivity to expect others to comply with her personal demands. So, it’s reasonable to believe she won’t stop talking about Taylor and Deacon, and that Sheila will be within soapy earshot on one occasion when that happens.
Of course, Deacon, Taylor, or others could let that sensitive information slip. But having Steffy do it would make for a compelling twist.
