Sally Spectra (Courtney Hope) has become the instant head of a combined Newman Media and Abbott Communications. Billy is the reason why that happened, but she’s leery of how it happened and who signed off on this seemingly illegal deal.
Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) has tried to knock Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) off his pedestal for decades.
But Jack’s victories, among many defeats, never resulted in a permanent end to the Moustache’s reign. That’s why his reaction to what he and Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) did infuriates Billy.
Even Victor has admitted that his company is lost. He currently has no control over Newman Enterprises. It would have been seen as crazy if someone predicted that outcome at any point in this soap opera’s history.
To think that Phyllis is responsible for this happening is also incredible. However, devoted fans recall that she’s held onto the rightful grudge that Victor created when he unleashed Marco Annicelli (Bergman in a dual role) on her.
Phyllis was apoplectic that Jack wouldn’t defend her honor after that event was exposed. Viewers recall that it was the watershed moment when Jack was written into a neutral stance and later forged a detente with Victor, vowing not to engage with him moving forward.
Billy took the baton from his older brother and ran with it in recent years.
Sally is sharp. It would be biased to say that she’s socially climbed since arriving in Genoa City, Wisconsin. Whether she stays with Billy is increasingly in doubt because of all that’s developing.
This character crossover from the younger sister show, The Bold and the Beautiful, has worked marvelously. Hope is an outstanding actor who elevates whatever storyline her alter ego has been written into.
Billy’s love for Sally is real. Although he did mention not being sure if she was the so-called one last year. She committed to Billy after Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) betrayed her trust by re-coupling with Chelsea Lawson (Melissa Claire Egan), who betrayed Billy’s trust.
The new head of GC’s top media companies knows that the role Billy played in the takeover of Newman Enterprises is dangerous. It has to be illegal, with Victor needing to prove it since Cane Ashby (Billy Flynn) was physically stopped from reversing course by Phyllis.
Savvy soap fans know that Thompson is playing a character who is perennially doomed. No matter what he does, something always undercuts or reverses whatever progress he’s made.
The path Billy is on has been dark since Delia Abbott (Sophie Pollono) was tragically killed. Adam is believed to have committed that accidental hit-and-run, but there was enough daylight on that horrific night to produce his eventual vindication.
Phyllis heads Newman Enterprises, and she paid Billy off by giving him Chancellor and signing Newman Media over to Sally.
It will be groundbreaking if all of this stands. Fans surely suspect that it won’t, and Billy’s downturn is inevitable and surely painful.
