Tony Unexpectedly Passed Away After Complications From A Routine Surgery

As you are likely aware by now, the beloved figure from General Hospital sadly passed away on December 14, due to unforeseen complications that arose from a routine surgery.

“It was a shock for me and our families and our friends,” Gama expressed in a statement to TV Insider; “For over 30 years, Tony has been my friend, my companion, my husband.” The day that Geary left us seemed to start off like any other ordinary day.

Gama shared from their residence in Amsterdam that he intended to engage in some needlework, enjoy some television, and of course, shower their cat, Max, with affection before embarking on another hectic week ahead. It sounded like a perfect day-if only it had stayed that way.

Gama Posted About His Husband’s Death On December 16 Via Instagram

On December 16, Gama took to Instagram to share a deeply moving video of himself gazing out over the city.

The vibrant festive lights stood in stark contrast to the wave of sadness that had enveloped him. Among the many who reached out, Finola Hughes, who had spent summers in Amsterdam with the couple, expressed her heartfelt love.

The very next day, Gama posted a touching picture of their beloved gray tabby cat Max.

We can only imagine was showered with the extra scratches behind the ears that were recommended for this cherished feline family member.

Finola Hughes Expressed Her Love In Her Own Heartfelt Post

In her own heartfelt post, Hughes wrote: “Claudio I love you, we send our hugs.” And she added, “I’m always going to think of Tony out on the canals in his boat, slowly sailing through Amsterdam.” Finola has appeared on General Hospital since 1985, nearly as long as Tony, who first appeared as the iconic Luke Spencer in 1978.

We will forever cherish the stunning performances he delivered as Luke, along with the vivid portrait of him that has been painted by the countless tributes that have poured in.

Luke Spencer was the first soap character to be characterized as an “antihero” a central character in a story, movie, or drama who doesn’t display conventional heroic attributes.

Up until that time, the good guys and the bad guys could be easily distinguished-and although Luke did many heroic things, he was also considered at times, a bad boy.
