General Hospital Chris McKenna Talks “Surprising” Plot Twist In Carly & Brennan Romance

General Hospital spoilers suggest that fans expected a massive, exploding confrontation after Carly Spencer (Laura Wright) learned the truth about Josslyn Jacks’ (Eden McCoy) new WSB job, and how her boyfriend, Jack Brennan, played a major role in it all.

Brennan’s portrayer, Chris McKenna, recently talked to Soap Opera Digest (SOD) about his reaction to it all and teased what’s to come.

Chris McKenna’s Confession

McKenna admitted to SOD that he was expecting a “big blow-up” and was surprised by the plot twist GH writers crafted instead.

Rather than Carly lashing out at Brennan, which everyone thought she would do, she’s pivoted by concocting a deal with Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart) to bring her boyfriend down.

McKenna notes that, “Carly was completely in the right” (her reaction after learning about Brennan’s betrayal); however, through her new partnership with Valentin, McKenna tells SOD that Carly is, “… committing treason! I mean, he lied, but she’s committing acts against the nation!”

McKenna goes on to say, “So I think that now, Jack at least has an argument from this angle, which is, ‘I did something bad, but not treason!’ Carly is certainly swimming in deep waters now, which I think is really fascinating and cool.

I don’t know where it’s going, but I think it’s really interesting, and it’s a lot deeper and more complex than I was expecting.”

Will Brennan Know Something’s Up?

With that said, can Carly successfully pull off this mission and fool Brennan? McKenna adds his two cents by saying that the WSB head, “… plays things close to the vest”. The actor adds that fans might be shocked to see what he’s picking up on, even if he pretends to see nothing.

McKenna teases that, in upcoming episodes, fans will see Brennan have some “quiet moments” alone where he suspects that something doesn’t feel right, even if he doesn’t let on to Carly.
