It’s not just that the fans don’t think she did it. In fact, some of them think she did — even if it was in a blind rage post-mental breakdown after learning he slept with her mother, Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros)! Still, the fans don’t want to see Willow convicted of this crime — crazy or not — because they don’t want her carted off to Shady Brook or Pentonville, leaving her role to linger off-screen for a potential return years from now.
That might tie up the loose end that is her failed relationships with nearly every other character on the soap, but fans don’t want another crazy character written off only to return now and then to stir the pot.
That’s not the only reason though. They have a certain crazy character in mind whom they’ve been hoping would return soon — Nelle Benson Jerome (Chloe Lanier).
Nelle’s revival from the grave would fit right in with Nathan West (Ryan Paevey) and Britt Westbourne (Kelly Thiebaud) returning to town postmortem. Nina would have her whole family in tow, except for the daughter who is sitting in a jail cell, of course.
We wouldn’t be surprised to find that it was Nelle who is back from the dead, shot Drew, and planted that gun at Elizabeth Baldwin’s (Rebecca Herbst) house amongst Willow’s things to make her twin sister look guilty as sin.
After all, what better to enter back into Port Charles and the life she left behind than to get rid of the mother of the son she wants back?
Willow isn’t just grappling with the possibility of life behind bars for a crime she maybe didn’t commit. She’s also struggling to accept that everyone in her life has betrayed her.
She feels betrayed by her own mother for not having come clean about her own affair with Drew, which Willow believes would have led her in a different direction that kept her in her marriage.
She feels betrayed by Drew for not telling her he slept with her mother. She feels betrayed by Michael now because she believes he shot Drew and is framing her for it.
If Nelle returns, the opportunity for more feelings of betrayal will skyrocket, especially if Nina embraces her. Moreover, fans don’t see a Nelle return happening with Willow out of the picture.
If we know Drew, he would use this opportunity to his advantage, even if he’s making it look like it’s for Willow’s benefit.
Case in point, we saw how he approached Veronica ‘Ronnie’ Bard (Erika Slezak) this week, angling to make an offer on the Quartermaine mansion — you know, so he could bring Willow and Emily ‘Scout’ Cain (Cosette Abinante) home to it.
There’s nothing in it for him — honest! We foresee Nelle’s return being much the same, and the fans suspect it would be a much juicier plot line with Willow involved — not in lock-up.
Drew might claim that he’s trying to mend fences for Willow’s benefit, but we could see him teaming up with Nelle to do some serious damage to their mutual enemies, like Michael, even if that means jumping into bed with Willow’s twin and betraying her all over again.

The above is crazy but it could make for good story telling. But, it would also mean more of the Drew Cain Story, which I want to end as soon as possible.
